Song of the Day 11/9: The Kinks, “Do It Again”
h/t RE Vanella Republicans who still can’t accept that their turd emperor got flushed have floated the idea that we should hold another election. Sure, fellas, just wait four years. Meanwhile, Democrats are gearing up to do it again in Georgia, because winning the two run-off elections for Senate seats would give them control of […]
Song of the Day 11/8: The Four Seasons, “Walk Like a Man”
I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard the Trump campaign tried to get these guys to perform at that infamous Northeast Philly press conference. They didn’t show because they went to the Four Seasons hotel by mistake. Also, too, the song describes something else Trump can’t do. Like most of the group’s string […]
President-Elect Biden Addresses the Nation and World on a Great Night for Wilmington
There will be time enough for examining the new political terrain in Delaware, but for now I’m just going to relax and enjoy the moment.
We watched the speeches and fireworks/drones from the Outlets parking lot. It was wonderful. Wilmington looked awesome. The vibe was great.
Folks, the people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory. A victory for we, the people.
We won with the most votes ever cast on a presidential ticket in the history of the nation: 74 million. Well, I must admit it surprised me. Tonight, we are seeing all over this nation, all cities and all parts of the country, indeed across the world, an outpouring of joy, of hope, renewed faith in tomorrow to bring a better day.
And I’m humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but unify. Who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States.
Song of the Day 11/7: Bob Camp (as Stinky Wizzleteats), “Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy”
If ecstatic Democrats are going to gather in crowds to cheer Joe Biden — amid a pandemic, please remember — I wish they would all sing and dance to appropriately gleeful but simpleminded music. This tune, for example. The song first appeared in the sixth episode of the first season of “Ren and Stimpy,” the […]
Joe Biden Declared President-Elect!!
NBC just called Pennsylvania for Biden, and has declared him President-Elect. Our long national nightmare is almost over.
So Maybe Hillary Wasn’t the Problem
It is time to reassess the supposed unique weakness of Hillary Clinton as a candidate. She shouldn’t have been nominated, some contend, because she had been demonized by right-wing media for 30 years. She wasn’t “likable” enough. She turned off conservative women. She triggered people’s inherent misogyny. I’m sure there are other widely believed tropes […]
Why is the Return to Shitty Leadership in the DE House Acceptable?
In a year when we got new leadership in the Senate, and had historic wins for progressives in the house – we accept the same shitty, cops in house leadership. Why?
I’m seriously asking. Why is Pete Schwartzkopf the Speaker of the Delaware House?
Biden Delays Announcement in Misguided Attempt to Build Legitimacy Among Republicans
I get it. But delaying is misguided because he will never gain legitimacy among Republicans. All the “we need to work together” malarky is great for the pundits, but c’mon… We all know Republicans are irredeemable. Cue the fireworks, claim your mandate, Joe, and move forward.
Next Generation of Progressive Leadership Takes Over DE Senate
Delaware Senate Democrats selected new leadership ahead of the 151st General Assembly.
The 14-member Majority Caucus chose Sen. Dave Sokola as President Pro Tempore, Sen. Bryan Townsend as Senate Majority Leader and Sen. Elizabeth “Tizzy” Lockman as Senate Majority Whip.
The new legislative session will begin on January 12, 2021.
Nobody needs Democrats who actively frustrate the expressed will of the voters. When voters elect Democrats, they expect progress, not excuses.
That’s not how that works.
A theme of Republicanism is a showy, prideful ignorance about how things actually work. Elections, climate change, social security, on and on. .
It is more pronounced under Trump, but it has always been there.
Song of the Day 11/4: Alice Cooper, “Elected”
This one is for all the people who were elected yesterday, a list that does not yet include a president. Though the song appeared Alice Cooper’s 1973’s “Billion Dollar Babies” LP, it was released as a single the autumn before, in time for the 1972 presidential election. It didn’t make much of a dent in […]
Well…?
Voters did some good here in Delaware. There is that. Congratulations to Sarah, Kyle, Spiros, Marie, Larry, Rae, Krista, Madinah & Eric. We are a better state this morning. To others that worked hard but fell short. Thank you. Not winning is sad, but not trying is tragic.
Nationally…I allowed myself to believe that Biden’s unity message could break through America’s carapace of willful ignorance. So much for that. Biden can still win, but he’ll win the Presidency of a country wrecked by stupidity and greed. Huzzah!
Delaware Elects First-ever Transgender State Senator
Delaware elected the nation’s first-ever transgender state senator Tuesday night when LGBT activist Sarah McBride won a senate seat in a landslide. McBridge won her race with about three-fourths of the vote in Delaware’s first state senate district. According to Politico, 30-year-old McBride is set to become the nation’s most senior elected official who is […]
