Here’s What Biden’s Selling

Filed in National by on May 14, 2019 11 Comments

Horse-race pundits already have all but conceded the Democratic nomination to Joe Biden, which is easy to do now because people haven’t yet had a chance to hear his sales pitch for the job. Bloomberg News national political reporter Sahil Kapur, following Biden on the trail in New Hampshire, heard his chat with one couple […]

AT&T promised 7,000 new jobs to get tax break—it cut 23,000 jobs instead

In 2017, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson campaigned for Trump’s massive tax-cuts by promising that they would create 7,000 jobs with the $3,000,000,000 they stood to gain,

“every billion dollars AT&T invests is 7,000 hard-hat jobs. These are not entry-level jobs. These are 7,000 jobs of people putting fiber in ground, hard-hat jobs that make $70,000 to $80,000 per year.”

Stephenson also said that AT&T would invest in new infrastructure. But something happened on the way to the trickledown boon for workers. Instead of creating new jobs or investing in infrastructure, AT&T reduced its headcount by 23,328 workers while reducing capital expenditures by $1.4B

Don’t worry though, AT&T substantially increased executive bonuses over the same period.

The Nut Factory in Our Midst

You might have seen the Buzzfeed interview and profile of Katie McHugh, a former Breitbart writer who now calls herself a former white nationalist, or maybe some of the voluminous commentary churned up in its wake. Rosie Gray, who covers the alt-right for Buzzfeed, traced McHugh’s history, from her exurban upbringing to Allegheny College through […]

Trump 2020 Campaign Begins With Brazen Hostility to Laws, Democratic Institutions, Propriety

Trump has dispatched Giuliani to Ukraine to push the incoming government in Kiev to press ahead with investigations that he hopes will benefit Trump 2020 and hurt Joe Biden.

We know this because Giuliani brazenly said that his trip to Ukraine intended to push the incoming government in Kiev to press ahead with investigations that he hopes will benefit Trump 2020 and hurt Joe Biden.

So Simple Even Kos Gets It

Filed in National by on May 9, 2019 4 Comments

I find myself disagreeing with Markos Moulitsas when he says things like “Democrats must nominate a woman” and similar proclamations that are too calculating by half. I also dislike his not-subtle anti-Bernie bias. But even Kos understands that Democrats pay too much attention to trying to avoid riling up Trump’s base. As he points out, […]

US Government Is Now In A ‘Constitutional Crisis’

US Government Is Now In A ‘Constitutional Crisis’

Due to the utter lawlessness of the Executive branch and the enabling of that lawlessness in the Senate of the United States, we are now in a Constitutional Crisis.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NJ) said Wednesday that the full House will move “rapidly” towards holding Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt, warning that the U.S. government has entered a “constitutional crisis.”

Nadler made the remarks after his committee voted in favor of recommending Barr be held in contempt for refusing to produce the unredacted report of special counsel Robert Mueller and its underlying materials, which the committee had subpoenaed.

“We’ve talked for a long time about approaching a constitutional crisis, we are now in it,” Nadler said, before referencing the famous Benjamin Frank quote about United States being a “republic…if you can keep it.”

“Now is the time of testing whether we can keep a republic or whether this republic is destined to change into a different, more tyrannical form of government,” he said.

Nadler did not know whether the full House would vote on the contempt resolution next week, but said it would be on the floor soon.

Is Trey Charles Paradee Pro School Massacre?

Is Trey Charles Paradee Pro School Massacre?

Even as another school shooting unfolded in Colorado, Trey Paradee took steps to undermine SB68 by pushing an amendment that would delay SB68’s effect for a generation.

In view of the plain facts, a strong case can be made that Paradee is in favour of free and breezy access to assault rifles and machine guns, and if some lunatic shoots up a school while SB68 is barred from taking effect…too bad.

Help Send a Strong Message to the Delaware NRA Blood-Soaked Caucus

Between now and Nov 3rd 2020 we can’t take any days off.  Every battle is in anticipation of, and preparation for the big battle 541 days from now.

Dear Democrat,

On Wednesday, the General Assembly will consider three bills in the Senate Executive Committee that taken together, will go a long way toward curbing gun violence and reducing the threat of mass gun violence here in Delaware.

Since Sandy Hook, many Democratic leaders have worked hard to pass meaningful reforms that have made our children and families safer. We’ve closed Delaware’s gun show loophole, extended the background check period on gun purchases, banned bump stocks, and passed red flag laws that prevent known threats from possessing firearms.

At every turn, the NRA tried to stand in the way, and at every turn, our leaders didn’t blink. We can’t blink now.

That’s why we’re asking for your help on two important fronts:

1) Please call or write your Senator and tell them that like nearly three in four Delawareans, you support common sense gun safety reforms like banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that are manufactured to kill.

Comment Rescue: Blah, Blah, Blog

Comment Rescue: Blah, Blah, Blog

This rings true:

Political activism and organizing isn’t concerned with engaging the already engaged. Or the folks who have a financial stake. Or the people who have a very clear sense class consciousness.

Democrats arguing about Biden or Bernie on a blog is pretty useless unless it is a springboard for getting more people involved in voting in their best interest. When it is good, this blog has been a springboard for that kind of work. I’ve seen it.

On the whole though, the GOP has been better at organizing because they have been better getting people involved in voting for nonsense and against their economic interest.
