Trump’s Lies Bury Oddsmaker

Filed in National by on January 9, 2019 1 Comment

The online oddsmakers at Bookmaker.eu demonstrated they’re not well versed in American, or at least Trumpian, political rhetoric. They set their over-under on how many lies Trump would tell in his Immigrants of Doom address at 3.5, and suffered the consequences. A staggering 92% of bettors took the over, soaking the site for $276,424. “We […]

Open Thread – Trump’s TV Show Ratings Sucked

To be honest, I don’t know how Trump’s address did in terms of TV ratings. I suspect he bombed. I didn’t watch. Did any of you?

Apparently, it was terrible. His eyes were squinty and his expression flat.

The words, which often sounded more like a speechwriter’s than Trump’s own, were delivered with such slow and deliberate articulation that comic Seth MacFarlane tweeted that the 9-something-minute address “had the cadence of a Wheel of Fortune contestant solving the puzzle.”

Open Thread – Trump Show “Live” Tonight & “Hummers” Parade Dead

Filed in National by on January 8, 2019 22 Comments

Trump is expected to declare some national security emergency tonight because 4 people on the terrorist watch list were once stopped at our border with Mexico. So all other news basically shrinks into insignificance as we may be facing a major constitutional crisis. Are we living in the last 12 hours of the American Republic […]

Coons Sides with Trump on “See Through” Border Wall During Fox & Friends Segment

Filed in National by on January 7, 2019 10 Comments

Coons gotta Coons.

Coons (D-Del.), in an interview with Fox News’s “Fox & Friends,” urged the president to stick with his proposal, made to Democrats over the weekend alongside additional funding for other needs at the southern border. The lawmaker called the idea “a minor but important difference in technology,” with the caveat that Trump has at times been inconsistent in his demands and rhetoric on the issue.

Quote of the Day

“In the eyes of Trump’s base, whatever [he] is doing is the right thing, or he wouldn’t do it — it’s just that simple. Trump’s base is not holding him to a wall —- they never really did. The media has been holding Trump to a wall, specifically the right-wing media that Donald Trump watches […]

Someone is writing tweets for a comatose Tom Carper

Filed in National by on January 7, 2019 8 Comments

How do I know it isn’t Carper? Well, for starters, it isn’t 30,000 words. It makes sense and hangs together. It supports Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s call to stymie other Senate business until Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reopens the government. It treats Trump and McConnell as adversaries, not mildly confused friends. In short, this tweet has no Tom Carper DNA on it.

.@ChrisVanHollen is right. It can’t be business as usual in Congress until @realDonaldTrump does his job and our government is reopened. Ending the #TrumpShutdown — which is hurting American families and putting our national security at risk — must be our priority.

Doddering Tom Carper on why Doddering Joe Biden Should Be Prez

Filed in National by on January 7, 2019 6 Comments

Carper thinks Biden would be a good President because he gets along with Mitch McConnell. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!

Carper thinks that is what America is clamoring for? Carper thinks THAT is what will make the next President effective?

You mean like the time Biden got McConnell to vote on the Merrick Garland nomination? Or maybe Carper is remembering the time Biden got McConnell to vote on reopening the government. I mean JESUS! Can Carper really be this stupid?

Except.. yes. Carper could be that stupid.

Song of the Day Jan. 7: Ray Lamontagne, “Crazy”

Filed in National by on January 7, 2019 0 Comments

I’m a sucker for a good cover, especially when it gives a new perspective on the original. “Crazy” was the hit off the 2006 album by Gnarls Barkley (a collaboration between CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse). Later that year Ray Lamontagne sang it during a radio station acoustic session, and it quickly went viral. Its […]

House Ethics Committee Chair, Valerie Longhurst, announced today that the committee will investigate what many have described as Mike Ramone’s “brazen criminality, abuse of public office, and self-dealing” in connection with the recent election and a financial windfall he engineered for himself.

Open Thread – Fuck Iowa, Trump’s Boss in the Kremlin gets Bad News & Woosh Goes the Overton Window

I don’t see why we invest Iowans with the authority to pick who can and who can’t run for President. So I’ll vote for the Dem candidate who says “Fuck Iowa”. Or more to the point, I’d vote for a Dem primary candidate that says. “Yes, I’d like to win in Iowa, but Iowa is […]

Comment Rescue/Song of the Day Jan. 6

This contribution to the open thread by Mike Dinsmore is too good to leave in the comments. It’s the perfect response to the right-wing pearl-clutching about impeaching the motherfucker: Folk Uke — Amy Nelson (Willie’s daughter) and Cathy Guthrie (Arlo’s daughter) — is based in Austin.

Open Thread – Dems Learn to Attack Rather Than Apologize

A newly elected Dem called Trump a motherfucker (which, in addition to being a lying bitch, he is), and the world yawned. Why? Tom Levinson writing at explains why. It hasn’t sunk in yet for the political establishment — and by that I mean not just the electeds, but the whole infrastructure of consultants and […]
