It is basically official. Biden will be the straight-talking, blue collar, non-Clinton alternative to Ms. Clinton. So what if he is polling at 12% to Clinton's 72%? He has always wanted to be the President of the United States and you have 0% chance of making the shots you don't take. Would he be a good President? Well, what's your criteria? He would be better than any of the Republican alternatives, to be sure. Would he be better than Hilary Clinton? I guess we'll be able to hear him make the case for why he would. In the process I only hope that he doesn't load up the GOP with a lot of ammunition to use against her if (when?) he falls short.

Support for candidates who voted for the health-care law has improved dramatically in recent months, a Washington Post/ABC News poll released Tuesday shows. The survey found respondents almost exactly split on the question of whether they would be more or less likely to vote for a congressional candidate who supports the Affordable Care Act, with 34% saying they would be more likely to vote for the candidate and 36% saying they would be less likely to do so. Some 27% said it would not make a difference.

In November, during the troubled launch of HealthCare.gov, just 21% said a candidate’s support for the law would make them more likely to vote for them, compared to 37% who said it would make them less likely to do so. A much larger percentage—40%—were indifferent. The hardcore 36-37% opposed to the law and thus opposed to anyone who says anything good about the law stayed basically the same, with all change come from those who were indifferent, who now love the law enough to say it will make it more likely that they will support a candidate who supports Obamacare. That is a 14 point net swing. That is huge for only four months. Imagine where we might be in another, or July....

Our 62 District Strategy Chart is updated as I have removed Rep. Darryl Scott and added Sean Lynn's name there as candidate in the Democratic column. City Councilwoman Dorsey Walker has filed to primary Senator Bob Marshall in the 3rd Senate District. Does Senator Marshall retire, or face a much tougher primary this time around then he experienced last time. Representatives Bryon Short, Kim Williams, Larry Mitchell, and Earl Jaques have all filed for reelection. And Democrat Jeff Porter of Tavistock has filed to challenge Representative Debbie Hudson. Good. I was afraid I might have to run against her just to get a Democrat into the race. There is also a bit of a joke in the chart. A joke I now hope to turn into a reality... Also, will Delaware's most popular politician really not be on the ballot in 2016?

In one week, he has expressed an opinion about the Ukrainian crisis that should have come straight out of the mouth of Dick Cheney. And now he votes against a well qualified nominee because he is scared of something, though it is not precisely clear what. This is despite the fact that he faces no opposition for reelection. And even if he did, and his opponent championed this vote to approve this nominee as a reason to defeat Senator Coons, all he had to do is say that Adegbile is well qualified for the position and that his representation of Mumia was on constitutional issues after he was already convicted. And even still, is he not principled enough to stand up for the AMERICAN and CONSTITUTIONAL notion that every citizen, no matter what they are charged with, no matter their alleged crime, deserves a day in court and deserves representation by legal counsel? Is he that chickenshit to deny this basic right? Apparently so. We Delawareans desperately need to replace him in the Senate, for he does not possess the skill, principle or fortitude for the job.

First Read reports on the Texas party primaries last night (which are as ridiculously early as Delaware's are ridiculously late):

"Yet if the GOP establishment largely won the battle last night, the Tea Party has already won the war. Every Republican running for office -- up and down the ballot -- did so by running hard to the right and hard against President Obama (even in races that have nothing to do with the president)... And in another example of how the Tea Party has already won the war, just check out the tweet that Sen. Lindsey Graham -- another establishment Republican facing a Tea Party primary field this year -- fired off yesterday regarding the situation in Ukraine: 'It started with Benghazi. When you kill Americans and nobody pays a price, you invite this type of aggression.'" "Bottom line: Establishment Republicans have figured out how to survive (for the most part) in these primaries, but the question is whether this has been good for the party in the long run."

Let me give you a hint: it will doom them in national elections, it will guarantee a Ted Cruz or Rand Paul nomination, and will result in a 400 electoral vote landslide by President Hillary Clinton. Now, some would say that is bad for the party. I disagree. I think Republicans love their base to be outraged so that they can be bilked. Nothing better for that than 16 years of Democratic control of the White House.

Mike Castle can sleep in his beach house soundly knowing that you are on the job heavily subsidizing his choice to live next to the unpredictable Atlantic Ocean totally risk free. You feel good about yourself, right? Castle deserves his sound sleep. Actually, I'm not crazy about the set up. I happen to think that people who decide to live in flood plains should shoulder the risk of that reckless behavior. It is the one area of common ground I had with teabags, and it was the one positive outcome from the Democratic Party's adoption of austerity mania. We can't afford to cover Mike Castles flood risk, nor should we have to. For a while it looked like we were going to get out from under having to pay Mike Castle's beach house flood insurance premiums, but now it looks like that ain't happening
