I like Zelenskyy. He is always on message, “Great. Thanks. Send More.” Pelosi Goes to Kyiv House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised Ukrainians’ “ferocity” and promised military and financial support after leading a top-level meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv over the weekend. Pelosi, the most senior American lawmaker to visit Ukraine since Russia’s […]

Everything is Relative

Boebert (who assembled her four young children in front of a Christmas tree and had them pose with AR-15s for social media likes) is sick of being lumped in with Greene because Greene is  cR@Zy!!

Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert reportedly almost came to blows over Greene’s appearance at a white nationalist event in February, to the point that someone had to step in between them to de-escalate the confrontation. Three people close to the Freedom Caucus confirmed the spat to Politico, which took place during a meeting of the caucus’ board of directors.

Are you now, or have you ever been woke?

My cousin twice removed, Adrian Scott, was a screenwriter and  one of the Hollywood Ten. He was blacklisted for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).  He was a lefty. I never knew him and wasn’t around for it, but I imagine that the thing that made the “Red Scare” scary was […]

DeSantis doesn’t want to win an election. He wants to win a war.

Filed in National by on April 28, 2022 0 Comments

The competent Trump.  That’s the brand DeSantis is trying to build. These similarities reflect a certain ideological convergence between the post-Trump Republican Party and Fidesz: a belief in the central importance of cultural war and the need to wage it using state power. Broadly speaking, both Orbán and DeSantis characterize themselves as standing for ordinary […]

Biden is about to choke on this Student Debt layup, landing funny on his ankle breaking it

Filed in National by on April 28, 2022 4 Comments

I hate being able to see the future with such clarity.  But Joe listens to too many sober centrist moderates.  (That’s generous, maybe the sober centrist moderate he is listening to Joe Biden’s internal monologue?  Who knows.) Anyway, he could forgive student debt and let the Republicans & Coons have their conniption fit.  They’ll have […]

Coons On Morning Joe This Morning “pushing” for Congress to “do more” for Ukraine

Filed in National by on April 28, 2022 2 Comments

This is a very loose transcript.  Coons managed to restrain his usual warmongery.  Although he doesn’t think Biden is being Kennedy-esque enough in the face of Putins threats to use nukes.    _________________________________ Morning Joe Panel Guy:  You’ve talked about the need to restore deterrence. Coons: We need to restore deterrence capabilities of NATO, and we need […]

Least Surprising Stories From the NYT – Labor Going Hard for Trump in Ohio

Filed in National by on April 28, 2022 4 Comments

With the Sober, Moderate, Centrist Democratic Party offering NOTHING to working class voters beyond complicated, means tested tax credits, of course they’ll go for the anti-NAFTA nationalist. Labor’s Disenchantment in Ohio Puts Even Democratic Veterans at Risk As unions decline and their members maintain their affections for Donald J. Trump, Democrats like Representative Marcy Kaptur […]

Disney responded to Florida Republicans’ attempts to dissolve its special status self-government entity it by explaining DeSantis should kindly fuck off, unless Florida intends to pay off Reedy Creek’s $1 billion in outstanding bond debt. CNN:In a statement issued to its bondholders last Thursday, Reedy Creek pointed out that the 1967 law establishing the district […]

Song of the Day 4/27: The Replacements, “Androgynous”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on April 27, 2022 2 Comments

Republicans are like an aging band that doesn’t realize they’re playing stale oldies for a graying audience. They’ve been trying to relitigate the 1960s for 50 years now without coming up with any new tunes, so they’re back to demonizing sexual/gender nonconformity. They’re also keen on spotting perverts everywhere except the obvious places, namely evangelical […]

It is a strategy that is brilliant in its simplicity and effectiveness, but they won’t do it. Free Idea for Moderate Democrats: Criticize Republicans Conservative positions on abortion and LGBT rights are astoundingly unpopular. It could be better sledding for moderates than condemning their own party. BY RYAN COOPER Over the last week or so, […]

I actually feel sorry for the rubes who still think justice is going to catch up with the Trump crime family. NY judge holds Trump in contempt, issues daily $10K fines until he complies with AG I don’t know.  Is Mattea Roach a problematic Jeopardy champion, or is she simply not for me?   Jeopardy! champ […]

Filed in National by on April 25, 2022 2 Comments

During April 14th remarks at the University of Michigan, Coons was plainspoken about potentially sending U.S. troops to fight in Ukraine: “We are in a very dangerous moment where it is important that, in a bipartisan and measured way, we in Congress and the administration come to a common position about when we are willing […]
