Song Of The Day: Oct. 30, 2017
When Walter Becker died, I sampled a lot of his and Donald Fagen’s solo stuff and, of course, listened to a lot of Steely Dan. While this song was on a Greatest Hits collection, (a) it wasn’t a hit; (b) never made it onto an album (written when the Dan were preparing The Royal Scam […]
Song Of The Day: Oct. 29, 2017
A great lost (IMHO) Paul Simon classic. From a not-well-received album, Hearts And Bones, released in 1983. Talia Schlanger played it on the World Cafe a couple days ago, first time I’ve heard it. It blew me away:
Song Of The Day: Oct. 28, 2017
A new free-association musical treat brought to you daily. I first saw Buckwheat Zydeco do this at a festival the day before I hopped a plane to a conference in the Big Easy. Here’s the original, presented for obvious reasons:
Jazz Master Brings Creole Soul To Arden Gild Hall
No, I’m not the producer, but this Etienne Charles is damn impressive. The Guggenheim Fellow brings his ‘Creole Soul’ project to the Arden Gild Hall this Friday night at 8 p.m. Check him out. First, here’s a piece from his ‘Creole Soul’ project: And here’s a live taste: Hey, if you like, here’s where […]
Happy 100th To Thelonious Sphere Monk!
He’s on my musical Mount Rushmore. Perhaps Donald Fagen put it best: “The ET in my bedroom was my Thelonious Monk records.” There was no one like him. Not to mention, he had the greatest name of all time. Check out some highlights from a 1959 Newport Jazz Festival gig: https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/10/a-hundred-years-of-thelonious-monk-listen-to-this.html
‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: September, 2017
Was starting to get a little concerned, but the last week of the month saved me. As always, some real great stuff: http://www.npr.org/2017/08/10/542441711/songs-we-love-chain-and-the-gang-rome-wasn-t-burned-in-a-day (Do NOT pass this one by. It rocks!) One of my faves. A great road-tested band, and a great new album. Catch her live: You’re welcome.
‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: August, 2017
Quantity down this month. I like the diversity, though… Shelley Short: Death: https://shelleyshortmusic.bandcamp.com/track/death OK, one more from this irresistible group (I smell booking opportunity):

“Old Man Trump”
I had no idea that Woody Guthrie had written a song about Trump’s racist father. But he did. Here are Woody’s lyrics: Old Man Trump Words by Woody Guthrie, Music by Ryan Harvey I suppose that Old Man Trump knows just how much racial hate He stirred up in that bloodpot of human hearts When […]
‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: July 2017
I had so much good stuff this month that I excised some just to keep the numbers manageable. Another great month: “I miss you, but don’t miss you like I miss Prince…”. I LOL’d : While we’re on the subject of famed rockers’ deaths: From Japanese Breakfast to…Japanese Math Rock? Whatever it is, I love […]
‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: June, 2017
Thought a set of great and incredibly diverse new music would tide everybody over until Sunday’s Special Legislative session. Bad month for politics, great bleeping month for music. Something for everybody, even for Resident Curmudgeon Jason330. Find your faves: This is a previously-unreleased track from OK Computer. Pretty damn great: Time to segue on […]
‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: May, 2017

‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: April, 2017
Stuff that broke through the white noise for me this month: Best Robyn Hitchcock song I’ve heard in years: Philly’s indy scene is amazing. Love this song by Palm, a band I’d never heard of until last week. Math rock meets Gentle Giant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZWwe5E1qDo
