Delaware Political Weekly: Dec. 29, 2017 to Jan. 4, 2018
1. Rep. Steve Smyk Has A Challenger. With a real good resume…and a real bad website. His name is Jack Bucchioni, and here’s his website. If you can make it past the photo and that quality of life statement, you’ll find a high-quality challenger. Except…the photo on the ‘Meet Jack’ page is even worse. How […]
And Then There Were Three…
…D’s running for the seat of retiring State Sen. Margaret Rose Henry. Former City Councilman Darius Brown today announced his candidacy, according to WDEL. Here is his campaign web page. He was previously a legislative aide to Sen. Henry, according to his website. Brown ran for Wilmington City Treasurer in 2016 despite no finance bona […]
Now, HERE’s Something The General Assembly Can Wrap Up In January
They can end the use of bail as an economic weapon against the poor. HB 204 (The great Rep. J. J. Johnson) has passed the House, has been released from Senate committee, and can be put on an agenda when the General Assembly reconvenes next Tuesday. The bill, which has been strongly endorsed by Delaware […]
‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes Of 2017: #’s 30-21!!
Notice my subtle suspense-building mechanism of adding an additional exclamation point each day? Just working on my subliminal mind-control techniques should they become necessary. Today’s tunes run the gamut from the profane to…the not-so profane: 30. 29. 28. 27. 26. 25. 24. 23. 22. They had me at the Curtis Mayfield sample: […]
WDEL: KHN Lied On Her Ethics Statement
Read Joe Irazarry’s story here. She defines the term ‘grifter’. I’m beginning to think she doesn’t even get to complete her term b/c of legal issues. Didn’t mention a loan on her required ethics form. Said there ‘was confusion on whether the money was a gift or a loan’. Turns out that was a demonstrable […]
Open Thread For Dec. 20, 2017
Alby is incommunicado this morning, no doubt hanging with some amis of his, enjoying a croissant avec beurre blanc, and trying on berets. I’ll attempt to squeeze my pieds into his, um, soul shoes. The Great Robbery Of 2017 is almost complete. The blatant transfer of more wealth to those who needed it least. The […]
General Assembly Prefile Profile
As the General Assembly heads into the second year of the current term, we are presented with this teaching opportunity. Primarily for the newbies, but you grizzled vets might learn a little something as well. We begin with the term ‘prefile’. The term refers to a group of bills filed prior to the legislature convening […]
Song Of The Day: Dec. 18, 2017
Jesus Week continues. The protagonist in this Tom Waits song expects Jesus to be here soon. That emphysemic cough at the very end suggests that the protagonist isn’t gonna find Him. While the Blind Boys Of Alabama provided a more optimistic take on this song, this one rings closer to the truth for me:
Delaware Political Weekly: Dec. 8-14, 2017
1. Miro To Retire, Grease The Skids For His Daughter? That’s the word on the street. The longtime pol who currently represents the 22nd RD is planning to retire and have his daughter run for the seat. I’ve also heard that the D’s have a strong prospective candidate. This is precisely the kind of seat […]
WDEL Gets The KHN Harassment Report
Great hed on Amy Cherry’s must-read piece: “Do You Need To Call Your Mommy?” I know it’s not politic to say so, but NCC Council President Karen Hartley-Nagle appears to be mentally and emotionally unfit to hold office. Her personal skills don’t seem to have advanced beyond the petulance of adolescence. She’s costing the taxpayers […]
Alabama Senate Race Open Thread
All signs point to a razor-thin race. Here’s one sign: Exit polls show men voting for Moore by a 57-40 margin and women voting for Jones by a 57-42 margin. Earliest results have Jones up, but with less than 4000 votes in. Not statistically significant.
Who Are Your Choices For MVP (Most Valuable to the Progressive Cause) And LVP?
I just don’t have the heart to try and cobble together an MVP list this year. The year sucked, locally and nationally. Worst year ever. I believe our democracy is imperiled, and I have abandoned any hope that those who pass for state leaders will lead. So, it’s up to you. Who provided you with […]
