‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: March 2023

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, Featured by on March 31, 2023 4 Comments

A great month of musical discovery, best this year so far: Didn’t know how to alphabetize artists whose first digits are #’s.  So, I just started with this one: Newsflash: The Beths. Still good: A roots stalwart working out the lower keys on the piano.  He should’a been bigger: Discovering bands like this is why […]

The steamy Stormy Daniels saga: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/03/30/nyregion/trump-indictment-news Lest you wonder, the LLC that was created specifically to launder the money was incorporated right here in good ol’ Delaware.

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thursday, March 30, 2023

Filed in National by on March 30, 2023 4 Comments

OK, I’m confused (said Captain Obvious).  Until it’s adjusted, here is today’s Senate Agenda.  No bills, but a message reading as follows:  “The Senate will reconvene on Tuesday, March 30, 2023, at 2:15 PM.”  Would it be impolitic of me to point out that there is NO SUCH DATE?  A glitch, no doubt. I’ll update […]

Song of the Day 3/30: The Replacements, “Never Mind”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 30, 2023 0 Comments

I was gonna go with something more involved, but I’m busy with houseguests, so never mind. If Paul Westerberg has ever explained the genesis of this tune from “Pleased to Meet Me,” the 1987 album the band recorded after dismissing wildman guitarist Bob Stinson, I’ve never found it. Some think it’s about Stinson getting canned. […]

Nazis Target The Trans Community.  How else should I phrase it?: The Republican-dominated Kentucky legislature voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to override the governor’s veto of a bill that will create a host of new regulations and restrictions on transgender youth, including banning access to what doctors call gender-affirming health care. The bill, described by L.G.B.T.Q. […]

“Moderate” GOPers ignore Marjorie Taylor Greene as she threatens to kill the hostage (America)

All Republicans are complicit in this. “Alvin Bragg – he’s on the verge of breaking the law for bringing fake charges against President Trump and politically attacking the top Republican presidential candidate of 2024,” Marjorie Taylor Greene said. (See video, posted by Patriot Takes, below.) “I’m telling you right now, once we cross this line […]

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Weds., March 29, 2023

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on March 29, 2023 9 Comments

I may, on exceedingly-rare occasions, be just a tad hyper-critical of the work of the Delaware General Assembly.  So, let me be clear: There has never, EVER, been a more progressive and effective political body in the State of Delaware than the current Delaware State Senate.  In fact, none is even close. Yesterday was a […]

Song of the Day 3/29: Joseph Arthur, “In the Sun”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 29, 2023 0 Comments

Singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur once remarked that there’s something about this song that makes people want to record it for charity. Arthur wrote it in 1995, about a friend who died of cancer, shortly before Peter Gabriel discovered Arthur and signed him to his record company. Gabriel recorded it the next year for a Princess Diana […]

Following up on yesterday’s “Biden is blowing it by chasing ‘the center’ ” story,  today’s open thread is a hasty collection of “Democrats in Array” stories.   Welcome to your end of month, half-assed open thread.   Democrats eye plan to force vote on gun reforms over GOP opposition Claire McCaskill: Democrats need to run on […]

When I moved to Dover Delaware from New Jersey in 1975 I entered  the 5th grade at William Henry Middle school.  I had no idea that from 1952 until 1966 William Henry Middle School was the “William Henry Comprehensive High School”, the only high school for African Americans in Kent County.  A showpiece school opened […]

Only Carney Stands In The Way Of Legalized Marijuana Now

In an historic session, the State Senate passed both HB 1 and HB 2 this afternoon.  Since neither bill was amended in the Senate, they both now await action from the Governor.  The Senate votes were overwhelming, and legislators I’ve talked to believe there’s a veto-proof majority in the House.  I simply cannot overstate the […]
