Song of the Day 1/10: Jethro Tull, “Skating Away (On the Thin Ice of a New Day)”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 10, 2023 3 Comments

To give you an idea how long ago the “classic rock” period was, Ian Anderson wrote this song for Jethro Tull’s “War Child” album in 1974, when scientists had concluded Earth was entering a cooling phase. Anderson approached it with his usual apocalyptic existentialism, but the lyrics are impressionistic, so the folk melody and lilting […]

Ok. I’m presuming that there are hundreds of tickets left based on the DeGOP’s demonstrated ability to get people to show up at things.

Also Today: Biden’s lawyers discover classified materials and immediately contact the appropriate agencies to inform them of the situation to get things returned as quickly and forthright as possible. So obviously he deserves to be impeached for it.

Survey Shows 81% of Republicans are Dumb Shitheads

Filed in National by on January 10, 2023 0 Comments

Trump really has a hold on those idiots. TBH, 81% is actually a higher than I expected.   (In a recent CBS News-You Gov poll) 81 percent of registered Republican respondents said that they want potential GOP candidates to have similar “policies and proposals” to Trump, while 19 percent want them to have different ones. … More […]

Song of the Day 1/8: Prince and the Revolution, “Let’s Go Crazy”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 8, 2023 1 Comment

Now that Kevin McCarthy has handed the loonies the keys to the new 2023 Congressmobile, they need a song to play on the radio — a theme song, if you will. How about this Prince number from 1984’s “Purple Rain”? Though you could make the argument that the so-called Freedom Caucus doesn’t have to go […]

The Sham That Is Trump-Style Populism: This crisis is entirely of the party’s own making. Gun Nutism Running Riot in Maryland – OK to bring guns to school provided you don’t shoot anyone

The fallacy that animates all gun-nutism is that gun owners are all perfectly rational and reasonable up until the moment they pull the trigger.

Under new Maryland law, student doesn’t face charges after bringing gun to school

Police say a 12-year-old boy brought a gun to MacArthur Middle School on Jan. 5, 2023. (Anne Arundel County police)

A 12-year-old boy escaped legal consequences after he brought a gun to school earlier this week, according to Anne Arundel County police.

On Thursday, police say the school resource officer at MacArthur Middle School was notified of a 12-year-old student who had a handgun, loaded magazine, and loose ammunition in a bag at the school.

The school says an investigation found that a handgun and magazine were found inside the fanny pack, but the gun was not loaded with bullets inside of the chamber; only a magazine with ammunition was found inside of the gun.

If this Trans Rights Map Holds Up, Biden Wins by 2 EC Votes

I plotted the states with Trans Protections vs Trans Antagonism on the Electoral College map and if Trans views correspond to Presidential preference, Joe Biden holds a very narrow lead.   Erin Reed is a researcher, mother, content creator, activist, writer and a transwoman who works “to achieve gender justice for queer and marginalized people through […]
