DelawareLiberal writers Steve and Jason join Rob in the bunker to talk about the first couple weeks of the new legislative session, what the future looks like for the House and the governor’s seat, and a new campaign to get Rob on Mic’d Up with Mike Smith.
Song of the Day 1/20: David Crosby, “Triad”
A critic once called David Crosby rock’s ultimate survivor. I’d quibble with that — Keith Richards charted much the same course, and did it all on just one liver — but that critic wasn’t far off. Crosby went from folkie to hippie to junkie and came out the other side as a rock star emeritus […]

Krugman: ‘Don’t Appease Economic Terrorists.’: No, raising the debt limit doesn’t give the president free rein to spend whatever he wants. It simply allows the government to honor its promises, which include everything from paying interest on its debt to sending checks to Social Security recipients. These promises, duly authorized by Congress, exceed the expected […]
General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thurs., Jan. 19, 2023
The air of excitement is palpable. The day that John Carney comes out of hibernation to discover he casts no shadow. Nor utters words of wisdom. His State Of The State Address. We’ve probably already heard his one initiative for the upcoming fiscal year–a boost in teachers’ salaries. Otherwise–another six weeks of winter while the […]
Song of the Day 1/19: First Aid Kit, “A Feeling That Never Came”
I usually leave the new music to El Somnambulo, who does it better than I could ever hope to. But I don’t think he flagged this quiet banger when the Swedish indie-folk duo, sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg, dropped their fifth album, “Palomino,” last November. When I heard this tune on the radio I didn’t […]

Famous Delaware Pro Rassler Killed In Auto Accident. Jay Briscoe, whose real name was Jamin Pugh. The Briscoes were a world-class tag team. Jay posted a homophobic tweet back around 15 years ago, which cost them a shot at WWE. However, he was exceedingly and genuinely remorseful, and sought to educate himself about LGBT issues. […]
Why can’t “Q” start lumping Coons in with all the world’s villains?
Coons seems like he is actively trying to get on the “Q” list of worldwide super-villains. It would certainly make more sense (knowing “making sense” rates dead last on any list of “Q” concerns) to drop “Lappy” or “the Rothchilds” and make Coons the most vile Hitler since the actual Hitler.
DAVOS, Switzerland – U.S. lawmakers quietly took part in a private ritzy lunch atop the World Economic Forum on Monday featuring dozens of influential business leaders, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter.
Lawmakers in attendance included members of the U.S. congressional delegation taking part in the annual confab for the elite and wealthy in Davos, including Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., Chris Coons, D-Del., Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz. and a few members of the House of Representatives, these people explained. Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp also attended the event, one of the people said.
Like the Outlandish Lies of Santos, McCarthy’s Outlandish Promises Keep Surfacing
I thought I had heard about all the wacky-ass shit McCarthy promised to the nutbag caucus, but I hand’t heard about the 30% national sales tax. As part of his deal to become House speaker, Kevin McCarthy reportedly promised his party’s conservative hardliners a vote on legislation that would scrap the entire American tax code and replace it […]
She’s Nothing You’ve Heard
She’s mostly lost in the mists of time, or maybe it’s the fog of New Jersey — Christine O’Donnell is someone we haven’t heard from in quite a while. Neither has the IRS, which says her dormant political action committee, Christine PAC, owes more than $6,100 in back taxes. I’m not sure why this story […]
Song of the Day 1/18: Brownsville Station, “Smokin’ in the Boys Room”
When control of the House of Representatives changes hands, so does the prime office space. Republicans now occupy high-traffic areas, making more public one of the institution’s dirty little secrets: Smoking is allowed in the private offices of members of Congress. Congressional offices from the first have been exempted from Washington’s ban on indoor smoking, […]
General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Weds., January 18, 2023
Hoo-boy. So much stuff to cover, much of it bad. Featuring at least one screed, maybe more. First, the ‘just the facts, ma’am’ portion of the Wrap-Up, aka yesterday’s Session Activity Report. What’s most notable is what’s not on the report, which will be the subject of Screed Number One. But first, Kim Williams’ mostly-useless […]

It is nice to see Democrats calling Republicans on their bullshit for once
Of course it only takes a couple of Dems in search of bipartisan glory (like Manchin or Coons for example) to overturn the debt ceiling chessboard.
Schumer/Jeffries: “default forced by extreme MAGA Rs could plunge the country into a deep recession”
Biden White House: “We’re not going to do any negotiations. And it should be, again, done without conditions,”
