General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thurs., June 9, 2022
The Senate didn’t pass the Budget Bill yesterday, and it’s not on today’s Agenda. Good. Gives us the weekend to scour the Epilog Language. The House Administration Committee released both HB 450 and HB 451 from committee yesterday. HB 450, the assault weapons ban, is on today’s House Agenda. I’ll be especially interested to see […]

Will Serial Sexual Predator Be Cleveland’s Starting QB This Year? Cleveland traded for this guy while completely aware of his alleged proclivities. His former team enabled his behavior, including requiring NDA’s from victims: The accusations have been frequent and startling: more than two dozen women have said the football star Deshaun Watson harassed or assaulted them […]
Song of the Day 6/8: Seals and Crofts, “We May Never Pass This Way (Again)”
Jim Seals, who died Monday at age 80, wasn’t just half of the ’70s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts. He and his musical partner were also among the best-known adherents of the Baháʼí faith, which does indeed hold that we won’t be reincarnated, but we will experience some kind of life after death. The […]
Carney is the lamest of lame ducks. Who will be the next Governor of Delaware? Part 1
Carney, at best, is a cardboard cutout of a man. In fact a cardboard cut out of a man has a little utility, so calling him that is an un-merited compliment. El Som has documented his lack of creativity, energy and low character. With his veto I’m just over that fucking waste of space. So […]
General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Weds., June 8, 2022
A productive day yesterday. Limits on assault weapons magazines passes in the Senate (will House weaken the bill again?); same-day voting registration passes the House. BTW, it’s official. Bill Bush is the House’s Joe Manchin. Only D to vote against same-day registration. Here is the Daily Activity Report for Tuesday. Could the Annual Budget pass […]
Kick Off Your Weekend With The Legendary Ingramettes
Soulful Gospel powerhouses: This Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Arden Shady Grove, right below the Gild Hall. While most of the music will be sacred Gospel, secular beer and wine will be offered. Oh, and the Ingramettes will work wonders with Bill Withers’ ‘Grandma’s Hands’. We’ve also got a Gospel Choir from the local […]
Delaware General Assembly Pre-Game Show: Tuesday, June 7, 2022
Let’s not bury the lede: After (that word again) burying and/or weakening meaningful gun control legislation for almost two years, the House will finally be SHAMED into taking action, beginning this week. We have a well-timed spate of gun violence to thank for their reversal. (Maybe if we had had a recent George Floyd incident […]
Song of the Day 6/6: Sheryl Crow, “Can’t Cry Anymore”
Polling conducted after the Uvalde Massacre asked respondents if they feel that mass shootings are “unfortunately something we have to accept as part of a free society” or “something we can prevent and stop if we really tried.” To nobody’s surprise, 44% of Republicans said we just have to accept mass slaughter or we’re not […]

Say what you like about Liz Cheney, she has more balls than 90% of Washington’s Democrats. She told CBS News that the Jan. 6 conspiracy was broad and well-organized. Funny, I don’t see Chris Coons rushing to applaud her bipartisan spirit. A bunch of Proud Boys were indicted for seditious conspiracy, which hardly seems fair […]

Imagining that teams of teenage boys are transitioning to win the girl’s softball state championship is a “problem” that only exists in the fever dreams of MAGAT nation. No matter, Ohio House Republicans passed a bill late Tuesday that bans all transgender students from playing high school and college sports, and requires genital exams in […]
Song of the Day 6/5: Wilco, “Cruel Country”
The genre now known as Americana was once known as alt-country, and Jeff Tweedy’s band, Uncle Tupelo, helped set the template by injecting pop-punk energy into country rock. That band split after four albums, and Tweedy formed Wilco in 1995. His music since then has ranged over broader territory, but with his new album “Cruel […]

Had a great relaxing weekend getaway. Clearing the mental clutter is a wonderful exercise. However, the weight of disappointing tens of thousands of our readers was always with me. I’m back to salve (or heighten) your disappointment. The Four Gun Control Measures That Could Have Saved 446 Lives: If the key gun control proposals now […]
Are you “working” *wink* from home?
I’m an office person. I like the dividing line between work and not work. I also like being around people. In my experience, being part of an effective team requires occasional bullshitting ..or let’s call it “non-work” interactions. But I can also see that I’m not like some people who are way more productive without the commute and office bullshit.
Either way, showing up in an office because some middle manager is justifying their job by taking attendance is probably going away.
At its heart, the battle over remote work is a test of corporate America’s definition of an ideal worker. For decades or even longer, that has been a person who prioritizes their job above all else and has no outside commitments.
It’s “an incredibly powerful story,” said Brigid Schulte, the director of the Better Life Lab program at the think tank New America. “It’s part of our culture. It’s part of our DNA.”
It’s probably not shocking that people who are lower on the org chart tend to be less enthusiastic about returning to the office than the senior leaders and executives who thrived in the in-person Before Times.
“For many C.E.O.s and managers, that’s how they worked. That’s how they succeeded and that’s the only way they know,” Ms. Schulte said. “All of this was completely false; it was totally a fake story we’ve been telling ourselves.”
