General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thursday, April 14, 2022
Here’s yesterday’s Session Activity Report. Both HB’s 371 and 372 were released from House committees, meaning marijuana legalization is not dead yet. I was pleased and somewhat surprised that HS1/HB293 was released, but now I know why: The bill doesn’t do what I thought it did. The General Assembly would indeed to continue to exempt […]

Absolute Must-Read: Pro Publica On Tax Avoidance By The Wealthy. Award-worthy, great graphics, and exceedingly aggravating. You Ever Get Mail From Hillsdale College? I do. Buncha RWNJ’s pretending to be a college. They’re now building a string of charter schools to combat ‘leftist academics’: With only 1,500 students on a small-town campus in southern Michigan, […]
The Rebecca Walker Story
It’s dawned on me that we’ve added quite a few new viewers in the past few years. Readers who are not familiar with some of the corruption that has been part of the Delaware Way forever. As you can see from this story from WDEL, (or more accurately from Randall Chase of the Associated Press, […]
Song of the Day 4/13: Julian Lennon, “Imagine”
Julian Lennon, now 59 years old, never sang this song for the public until last week, when he released this video, along with this statement. He’s accompanied by Nuno Bettencourt, best known as lead guitarist for Extreme. The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy… As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled […]
General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Weds., April 13, 2022
Uneventful day yesterday. Stephanie Bolden was back, but the Ft. DuPont Cash Cow bill wasn’t run. There’s always Thursday. Only real item of note was that HB 259 (Lambert) was tabled in the Senate. Likely either a technical glitch or a request for more information. Everything else passed on both agendas with no controversy. Take […]

Listen Up everyone. Seriously. Settle down.
As you know, the most important thing in this office is CONFIDENTIALITY. Also, LOYALTY. They are both number one. They are co-equal for me doing my best auditing. Right? because when I win, we all win, right? Only metaphorically speaking, because…you know…you get to continue working here, and that is winning.
Anyway…Also, PUBLIC RELATIONS! It is very very important. Also number 1 in importance. Edith, please stop looking at me like that. We can too have three number ones. Just like the Romans. Jeez…learn some history.
Anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted by Miss Bitchface, I was going to say that during these trying times we must project a calm image of normalcy. So when I say PUBLIC, You say RELAY-SHUNS. Let me hear you. PUBLIC! …..
*crickets chirp in the distance*
Well, we don’t really have time for that, but we’re all on the same page, right? Ok. Good.
Now I’m taking my daughter..uh, I mean my assistant to lunch. Where did I put that office credit card?
Song of the Day 4/12: Stan Freberg, “C’est Si Bon”
Today was beautiful in Paris, sunny and 22°, so nobody seems worried about Marine Le Pen. As the song says, “It’s so good!” My friend Geo. Stewart featured this version of an Yves Montand standard on a recent episode of Crazy College, his show dedicated to odd, silly and forgotten music that airs Sundays at […]
Delaware General Assembly Pre-Game Show: Tuesday, April 12, 2022
Anyone who thinks that the Ft. DuPont Cash Cow Bill is dead just because it wasn’t worked on Thursday, guess again. Word on the street is that Our PAL Val was perhaps only a vote short. Her equally corrupt legislative colleague Stephanie Bolden was not present (BTW, Bolden’s term is starting to look like Hazel […]
“Left” Parties in France Poll above 54.4%
My tabulation of “left” and “right” may grossly oversimplify where these party’s line up. But it looks like the “left” has more voters in the aggregate. Emmanuel Macron LREM (LEFT) 27.8% 9,784,985 Marine Le Pen RN (RIGHT) 23.1% 8,135,456 Jean-Luc Mélenchon LFI (LEFT) 22% 7,714,574 Éric Zemmour Reconquête (RIGHT) 7.1% 2,485,757 Valérie Pécresse LR (RIGHT) […]

Nothing goes on Russian state media with Putin’s approval. So this is basically Putin saying that he is planning on rat-fucking our elections and going all out to return Trump to the White House. Song of the Day 4/10: Holly and the Italians, “Tell That Girl to Shut Up”
This song goes through my head every time I see another Marjorie Taylor Greene/Lauren Boebert clickbait headline. In an alternate universe, Holly Beth Vincent had a career like Chrissie Hynde’s. Like the Ohio-born Hynde, Vincent, a Chicago native, got her big break after moving to the UK. In 1979, the same year the Pretenders released […]

Note: This isn’t an open thread so much as an open letter to Steve Newton. He is (was?) a libertarian and in the early days of blogging I was very dismissive of Libertarianism in general and him in particular. I’m still dismissive of libertarianism, but I’ve learned that Steve is a thoughtful historian and social scientist who cares about ideas and about America. That sounds awfully corny, but there you have it.
How will historians decide when one of Americans two major party’s lost its mind? With Republicans attempting to one-up each other in mean-spirited craziness on a daily basis, I suppose it is easy for us to…
