Back with my new hip.  I’m taking great pains, and great pain meds (thanks for everything, Jacqi!), to bring you the stuff that I find interesting.  Feel free, as always, to share with us the stuff you find interesting.  It’s what the Open Thread is all about. Biden Labels Putin A War Criminal.  Because he […]

Song of the Day 3/16: Dolly Parton, “Jolene”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 16, 2022 6 Comments

Millions of people think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should stick to honoring musicians who actually play rock music instead of inducting rappers and dance-pop superstars, but it took Dolly Parton to call them out on it. Parton told the institution she was withdrawing her name from consideration, and she did it with […]

Zelenskyy Addresses Biden Directly

Filed in National by on March 16, 2022 4 Comments

In words and images, Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an impassioned case for US intervention in Ukraine by means of a “No Fly” zone.

The images of a happy successful Ukraine prior to Putin’s invasion, contrasted with the same views during the invasion with broken and bombed buildings and people were powerful.

The only captions….  “this is a murder” and at the end…”close the sky over Ukraine”

People hate the clock switching nonsense. Now it is gone (in about a year). Huzzah! But did you know we tried this 48 years ago and it didn’t go well? Amid a U.S. energy crisis in 1973, President Nixon swiftly signed a bill which put the U.S. on daylight saving time for two years, Prerau […]

It’s Not a Memory Hole, It’s a Cone of Silence

Filed in International, National by on March 16, 2022 5 Comments

The idea that issues fall, through some accident or fault of their own, into a “memory hole” is a blatant lie. It’s a false frame, a construction the media uses to hide the fact that it ignores certain issues, either completely or soon after they arise, and not because they wouldn’t appeal to an audience. […]

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Weds., March 16, 2022

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on March 16, 2022 0 Comments

Everything on both agendas passed.  Nobody in the Senate cared about the Ft. DuPont rip-off or the giveaway to out-of-state veterans who would move here.  A Delaware Way kind of day. We only have committee meetings today.  Senate Committee highlights: SB 233 (Lockman) simply tries to formalize municipal voter registration by only requiring voter registration […]

Delaware General Assembly Pre-Game Show: Tuesday, March 15, 2022

I’ve been writing about the ethical sewer that is the Fort DuPont project since 2014.  With no, no, impact on the General Assembly.  Other advocates, armed with all sorts of empirical evidence on the irreparable harm the project could cause, have  become part of the effort. With no, no, impact on the General Assembly. The […]

Song of the Day 3/15: The Wailin’ Jennys, “One Voice”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, International by on March 15, 2022 2 Comments

One voice, the adage goes, makes more noise than 1,000 voices that remain silent. Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor of Russian state TV’s Channel One, staged a one-woman protest by interrupting a live broadcast with a sign that translates as “Stop the war. Don’t believe in propaganda. They’re lying to you.” She was immediately detained and […]

Julianne Murray is Running for AG as a Full On Trumpist Psycho

She seems to be vying with Witzke for the spot of de facto leader of Delaware’s racist nutbags.

Oh Crap  BEIJING, March 15 (Reuters) – China posted a steep jump in daily COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, with new cases more than doubling from a day earlier to hit a two-year high, raising concerns about the rising economic costs of its tough measures to contain the disease. EARWORM ALERT One of the first compositions written expressly for the synthesizer is also one of the best-selling instrumentals of all time — but not in its original version. “Pop Corn” is what German composer Gershon Kingsley called it on his 1969 album “Music to Moog By,” recorded to show off the capabilities of synthesized […]

Quick Q before we start this week…What’s your spirit flower?  I’m a daffodil.  I know that’s a hackey, obvious flower but I didn’t pick it.  The daffodil picked me.  Anyhoo…I mention that here because we are now just weeks away from my heyday.  Whatever flower you are, (Azalea, Tulip, Poppy, Sunflower, Rose, Orchid, Iris, Peony, Chrysanthemum, […]

Cruelty is the point

Filed in National by on March 13, 2022 0 Comments

Chris Coons is a very popular and relevant politician. I’m an unpopular and irrelevant microbe in comparison. But if I was as popular as say… a Chris Coons, I might try to spend some of my popularity by pointing out that the policies of the Republican Party are designed to inflict pain and suffering for […]
