How Much More Popular Stuff Will D’s Excise From Package To Satisfy The Two Bomb-Throwers In The Caucus? Lots more: The potential new price range marks a significant reduction from the $3.5 trillion that some Democrats initially pursued under a budget agreement chiefly brokered by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) earlier this year. But it is […]

Senate Redistricting Hearing: Comments On The Comments

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on October 19, 2021 28 Comments

I’m annoyed.  I’m annoyed at some of tonight’s speakers, including those from the ACLU and the League Of Women Voters.  Even though…we are members of the Delaware Chapter of the ACLU. Virtually all of tonight’s hearing focused on a few districts in Sussex County.  Three speakers complained that the beachfront community of Slaughter Beach was […]

Song of the Day 10/19: Jonathan Richman, “Velvet Underground”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on October 19, 2021 0 Comments

I haven’t seen the new Todd Haynes documentary about the Velvet Underground yet, but many of the reviews make a point of praising his affecting interview with Jonathan Richman. Though VU influenced thousands of bands, Richman is the sole musician Haynes shows talking about that. Richman met the Velvets as a teenager — the documentary […]

I kind blanked on the open thread this morning.   (My apologies to our dear readers and generous patrons.). Anyway, here are a couple stories from the blog Lawyers Guns and Money to go with your morning coffee. WHAT AMY CONEY BARRETT’S AMERICA WILL LOOK LIKE If you like people having their miscarriages investigated, you’ll […]

Delaware House Of Representatives Public Hearing: Comments On The Comments

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on October 18, 2021 7 Comments

Well, first and foremost, the R’s are not happy with Mike Ramone being placed in Paul Baumbach’s district.  House Minority Leader Danny Short spoke to that, as did several of Ramone’s constituents.  Schwartzkopf gave some mumbo-jumbo about the numbers and how they had no choice. Except–Ramone is right on the district boundary. Both the ACLU […]

No Delaware Legislators Signed This Letter

Filed in National by on October 18, 2021 9 Comments

Ernesto B. Lopez, a chickenshit
Dave G. Lawson, a candy-ass pussy
Colin Bonini, a fat sack of nothing
David L. Wilson, a drippy fart
Brian Pettyjohn, spinless twerp
Gerald W. Hocker, a limp-dick loser
Bryant L. Richardson, a scab-covered homunculus

No of these so-called “Patriots” had the guts to sign this letter calling for “audits” in all 50 states and the decertification of the 2020 election results.  They are all talk.

Dozens of state lawmakers from around the country have signed onto a letter falsely referring to the 2020 elections as “corrupted” and insisting on “forensic audits” in all 50 states.

The letter also calls for states to “scrub” their voter rolls, and…

Final Call For–Sierra Hull!! Queue Up For–The Claudettes!!

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, Featured by on October 18, 2021 2 Comments

This coming Saturday night. Ordinarily this concert would have sold out long ago.  But COVID has impacted ticket sales all across the country. However, this show will likely still sell out as we only have about 50 tickets remaining. Her music starts with bluegrass and then takes off from there.  Here is what Sierra is […]

The guy who had the ability (but lacked the guts) to put the brakes on Bush’s idiotic and ultimately tragic invasion of Iraq has died

I’m sure the media will spend the next 48 hours laying laurels on his head.

I’m a little over stories about the GOP “waking up” to the fact that Trump is box office poison.  I mean, we all know that the Republican base doesn’t give a flying fuck about what Asa Hutchison and Senator Bill Cassidy think, right? GOP Senator Bill Cassidy Doubts Trump Will Be 2024 Nominee: He Lost ‘House, Senate, Presidency’ […]

Flag of the Day – Transnistria

Flag of the Day – Transnistria

When I was a kid it seemed like half of the world’s flags were some version of this flag. Red field, soviet hammer and sickle, and a stripe.  A blue stripe (Ukraine).  A double blue strip (Turkmenia).  A dark blue strip (Azerbaijan).  Etc.  Now there is only one hold out waving this classic.  Little Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), has a flag frozen in time.

According the Wikipedia, Transnistria is an unrecognised country located in the narrow strip of land between the river Dniester

Song of the Day 10/17: Future Islands, “Seasons (Waiting on You)”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on October 17, 2021 1 Comment

I was walking through a metro station the other day when I saw an advertising poster for Future Islands, and my mind instantly flashed back to this performance from 2014, when the band made its television debut on David Letterman’s show. Thanks to frontman Samuel T. Herring’s impassioned delivery the performance went viral, which was […]

Wanting Shameless People to Feel Shame

Wanting Shameless People to Feel Shame

Jess Scarene said something in the “Kathy on Kathy Violence” episode to Highlands Bunker that really hit the nail on the head.  I’ll make a mess of it, but essentially…

So much of our “accountability” for rich, well-connected people depends on them feeling shame – when they really have never felt shame and will never feel shame in the future.

Beyond KKMcG just think of Joe Biden waiting for Mitch McConnell to feel shame.  Consider how long this blog has been waiting for Chris Coons to feel shame.  It simply isn’t going to happen.   They’ve killed off whatever vestigial shame mechanism they were born with.

BTW – Listen to, subscribe to, and support the Highlands Bunker Podcast. Here is a new episode.  I’ll be listening to this afternoon.

With a potentially transformative bill moving through Congress right now, Professor Harvey J Kaye joins Rob in the virtual bunker to talk about how FDR was able to create and frame his New Deal, and what the role of presidential and grassroots leadership is in passing a bold agenda.

Anybody Here Live In Delaware City?

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on October 17, 2021 0 Comments

If so, you might want to check out Monday evening’s Public Hearing to get public comment on the proposed House of Representatives redistricting maps.  Here’s the notice: https://legis.delaware.gov/TaskForceMeetingDetail?taskForceMeetingId=10517 Oh, and you might want to comment on whether it’s appropriate for the incumbent representative to saddle Delaware City with a highly-dubious ‘development’ project, and then skedaddle […]
