The Unvaccinated Are The New Villains.  As well they should be: The acrimony is only likely to intensify in coming months as vaccine mandates take effect at hundreds of colleges and universities, following a federal judge’s refusal this week to block Indiana University’s mandate. The Food and Drug Administration also is expected to fully approve […]

Song of the Day 7/23: John Mayer, “Last Train Home”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on July 23, 2021 0 Comments

The last thing I expected this summer was brand-new yacht rock, yet here it is. Someone played this for me and dared me to guess who it was, and all I could come up with was “Stevie Winwood or maybe Mark Knopfler but somebody else singing.” The last person I would have guessed was John […]

Gerald Brady Goes National.  Congrats to Speaker Pete, Our PAL Val, and Delaware Democratic Chair Betsy Maron for making Delaware even more of a laughingstock than usual.  Hey, I’ve got it: Gerald can switch parties and immediately challenge Lauren Witzke to be the xenophobes’ champeen.  Better yet, he can run on a ticket w/Witzke.  He […]

Good Evening! Did Gerald Brady resign today?

No? Really? Hmmm.. That’s strange. On a related note – what do Democratic “leaders” mean when they say “We will not tolerate this.” Because it seems to mean “We will tolerate this.”

Song of the Day 7/22: Bruce Springsteen, “Wings for Wheels”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on July 22, 2021 2 Comments

An odd story about a Bruce Springsteen composition popped up recently — an argument about the lyrics to his iconic song “Thunder Road.” Since the release of his “Born to Run” album in August 1975, everyone has sung the first line of the song as “The screen door slams, Mary’s dress waves,” with good reason: […]

I hope you haven’t stowed your face coverings too deep in the closet, because the smart money says we’re building toward a third-wave pandemic peak, probably in September. You can tell it’s gonna be bad because as of yesterday, both Fox News and some of America’s dumbest, most recalcitrant GOP pols — people like Mitch […]

Song of the Day 7/21: Big Star, “Watch the Sunrise”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on July 21, 2021 0 Comments

As Jason noted, raging wildfires are turning the West into a hellscape, but it is giving us colorful sunrises and sunsets. The rest of the day needs some work — the sun is obscured today by the remains of millions of dead trees. Big Star formed in 1971 when Alex Chilton, who left the Box […]

A social weirdo who craves a bizarre kind of attention

Filed in National by on July 21, 2021 2 Comments

As I’ve said, Duncan Black (Atrios) is the nation’s leading Coonsologist.

The Real Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan Was Just The Friends We Made Along The Way

Over the years we’ve witnessed numerous bipartisan “gangs” and every single time the Republicans steal the lunch money from the Democrats. Sometimes this is probably just a show, the Dems involved are happy to give the Republicans what they want. But quite often I think these are seemingly lonely (mostly) guys who relish the opportunity to have a few extra lunches and meetings with their pals and an opportunity to feel special for a few weeks. You don’t have to be a bit nuts to be a House or Senate member (you do have to be nuts to want to be president), but the jobs do attract some nutters. A certain kind of social weirdo who crave a bizarre kind of attention. Think Lindsey Graham. Not saying the Dems I am thinking of are like him in all ways, but in some.

Delaware Democratic Leaders Fail Epically On L’Affaire Brady

To the point, by refusing to insist that he leave office immediately after disgracing it and himself, Democratic leaders have officially tolerated behavior they all stated they will not tolerate. For those of you who have sworn off news, but decided to return today, here is what this hot mess of a legislator wrote: “Is […]

DL Open Thread Wednesday, July 21, 2021

Lot’s of news that I will skim over like a flat stone on a still lake. For instance, Dr. Anthony Fauci called Senator Rand Paul a liar and a fraud on the record. (Link) Another Trump official was arrested on foreign-agent charges, Rupert Murdoch decided that too many dead viewers isn’t good for ratings, and and Tom Brady mocked Trump while laughing it up with Joe

All of that before lunch.

But first…BIPARTISANSHIP’S last stand.

Chris Coons stated, “This time we are sure Lucy will not pull the football away.”

Song of the Day 7/20: Bo Burnham, “Bezos (I & II)”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on July 20, 2021 4 Comments

I really wanted someone to headline the Bezos in Space story “Giant Dick Travels to Space in Giant Dick,” but for some reason he actually has fanboys. I think comedian Bo Burnham is mocking Bezos, but I can’t be sure; he posted a tweet congratulating Bezos this morning, and I couldn’t tell if that was […]
