Song of the Day 5/8: Ringo Starr, “It Don’t Come Easy”
When the Beatles broke up, everyone knew that John, Paul and George would pursue solo careers. But what about Ringo? The guy Robert Christgau called “our representative on the Beatles” usually got one vocal turn per album and had scant songwriting experience. So people were surprised when this 1971 stand-alone single climbed the American charts, […]

Sorry for the delayed posting. Was out lit-dropping for Kim Stock today. It was worth it. Barr Authorized Search Of Reporters’ Phone Records. You know, to stop those damn leaks about Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections. He will go down in infamy. Some excerpts: The Trump Justice Department secretly obtained Washington Post journalists’ phone […]
The Confederacy was a con job on whites. And still is.
There should be a lot of working class solidarity with poor southern whites. Frank Hyman takes an insiders look at the dupers and the duped. The Confederacy – and the slavery that spawned it – was also one big con job on the Southern, white, working class. A con job funded by some of the […]

It’s Official: The Big Lie And Voter Suppression Are The Only Life Rafts Keeping The Rethuglican Party From Drowning. Either the Party dies, or democracy dies. Rep. Elise Stefanik adopts The Big Lie To Oust Liz Cheney from leadership. Here’s why Cheney is out: “For sure the votes are there,” Mr. Jordan said on Fox […]

“The harrowing experience of Jan. 6, the sharp divisions we saw in our election last year, and the rise of a more aggressive and assertive China and Russia, has really helped focus our country in the urgency in coming together and working to make a difference,” – Chris Coons, Noted Genius

“One hundred percent of my focus is standing up to this administration. What we have in the United States Senate is total unity from Susan Collins to Ted Cruz in opposition to what the new Biden administration is trying to do to this country,” – Mitch McConnell, Not Into Coons’ Bipartisan Fantasies
Song of the Day 5/6: Steely Dan, “Don’t Take Me Alive”
Trying to determine the top five rock guitarists is like trying to establish the top five colors. It can only be done subjectively, and it begs the question — what does “best” mean? Do you base it on soloing, or is versatility important? Is speed crucial, or does melodic sense outweigh it? It’s a problem […]

Never, ever doubt who Republicans represent. Hint: It isn’t you, unless you own a business. The new GOP obsession is a “labor shortage,” which is what Republicans call it when businesses are forced to increase wages to find employees. Or, if they’re in control, as they are in Montana, they get their shitweasel governor to […]

On Thursday April 29th substitute teacher and Kansas Republican State Rep. Mark Samsel went on a deranged rant in the class room and kneed a student in the balls. He was booked into the local county jail and released on a $1,000 bond.
This is a statement released by Samsel. As they say – read the whole thing. It is an artifact that future historians will use to explain the mental state of the Republican Party in the year 2021.
Rudy Giuliani’s people want Trump to pay Rudy’s legal bills. Also, people in hell want a drink of water.
But first…As the U.S. economy bounces back from the COVID-induced downturn, some employers say they’re having a hard time finding workers. GOP lawmakers blame the stimulus payments and unemployment benefits. That’s 100% bullshit.
Someone explain this shit to me, please
I naively thought the GOP would be glad to move beyond the box office poison that is Donald Trump, but nope. Fealty to Trump is THE organizing principle of the Republican Party now and through at least the mid-terms if not longer. It makes no fucking sense to me.
Cheney is now truly on her way out, so that looks like the last Republican who sounded reasonably sane when talking about America being a democracy.
Song of the Day 5/4: Rock Hall of Fame 2004 induction concert feat. Prince, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”
Did anyone in rock history rise to the big occasion better than Prince? His Super Bowl halftime show in the Miami rain stands as the best has come close to matching his concert in the Miami rain, and his blistering guitar solo at his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame left a […]

“On May 7, 1915, a German U-boat torpedoed and sank the RMS Lusitania, a British ocean liner en route from New York to Liverpool. Of the more than 1,900 passengers and crew members on board, more than 1,100 perished, including more than 120 Americans. If this grim tragedy teaches us anything, it is that we need to be steadfast in our commitment to forging a bi-partisan agreement to ensure Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan is watered down into nothing.” – Senator Chris Coons, Noted Christian.

With House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy now tasked with ousting Liz Cheney, I am reminded of Oscar Wilde’s take on fox hunting – The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable.
Mixed Covid news – For the first time in over a year, Los Angeles County reported no Covid-related deaths, but Oregon is going back into lockdown due to the UK variant. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
A new arena floor is being added to Rome’s iconic Colosseum to give visitors an idea of how the ancient Italian structure looked when gladiators fought and (no doubt) because it really doesn’t work as a tourist attraction with no floor.
But first… remember how Brexit happened almost by accident when David Cameron announced a referendum without giving one fucking thought to what leaving the EU actually meant? Well under the Good Friday Agreement, Northern Ireland is required to have a unification referendum if certain conditions are met. The conditions are not close to being met but you can’t be too careful, and some folks are not willing to bear the consequences of more accidental upheaval.
