Why is the Return to Shitty Leadership in the DE House Acceptable?

In a year when we got new leadership in the Senate, and had historic wins for progressives in the house – we accept the same shitty, cops in house leadership. Why?

I’m seriously asking. Why is Pete Schwartzkopf the Speaker of the Delaware House?

Biden Delays Announcement in Misguided Attempt to Build Legitimacy Among Republicans

Filed in National by on November 7, 2020 2 Comments

I get it. But delaying is misguided because he will never gain legitimacy among Republicans. All the “we need to work together” malarky is great for the pundits, but c’mon… We all know Republicans are irredeemable. Cue the fireworks, claim your mandate, Joe, and move forward.

Song of the Day 11/6: Chumbawumba, “Drip, Drip, Drip”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on November 6, 2020 2 Comments

Those mail-in ballots just keep trickling in. It must feel like water torture to Twitler. This song was on the same album that made Chumbawumba a one-hit wonder, “Tubthumping,” released in 1997. That eponymous single hit No. 6 in the Hot 100, a major feat by then for any rock track, and drove the LP’s […]

Next Generation of Progressive Leadership Takes Over DE Senate

Filed in National by on November 6, 2020 8 Comments

Delaware Senate Democrats selected new leadership ahead of the 151st General Assembly.
The 14-member Majority Caucus chose Sen. Dave Sokola as President Pro Tempore, Sen. Bryan Townsend as Senate Majority Leader and Sen. Elizabeth “Tizzy” Lockman as Senate Majority Whip.
The new legislative session will begin on January 12, 2021.

Nobody needs Democrats who actively frustrate the expressed will of the voters. When voters elect Democrats, they expect progress, not excuses.

Song of the Day 11/5: Stephen Bishop, “On and On”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on November 5, 2020 0 Comments

How long will the vote counting last? It just goes on and on… Try to relax with a little yacht rock. Back in 1976, when the mellow music of Southern California was known, oxymoronically, as soft rock, Stephen Bishop released his debut album, “Careless,” and what would remain his biggest hit. “On and On” climbed […]

That’s not how that works.

Filed in National by on November 4, 2020 1 Comment

A theme of Republicanism is a showy, prideful ignorance about how things actually work. Elections, climate change, social security, on and on. .

It is more pronounced under Trump, but it has always been there.

Song of the Day 11/4: Alice Cooper, “Elected”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on November 4, 2020 0 Comments

This one is for all the people who were elected yesterday, a list that does not yet include a president. Though the song appeared Alice Cooper’s 1973’s “Billion Dollar Babies” LP, it was released as a single the autumn before, in time for the 1972 presidential election. It didn’t make much of a dent in […]

Gaming Out The Delaware State Senate’s Leadership Contest

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on November 4, 2020 21 Comments

OK, kids, this should be fascinating.  According to Matt Bittle at the Delaware State News, the Senate Democrats are expected to choose their leadership team sometime this week.  There are 14 D senators.  We know that the ethically-bankrupt Nicole Poore wants to be Pro-Tem, and we know that the progressive members of the caucus want–someone […]

Well…?

Well…?

Voters did some good here in Delaware. There is that. Congratulations to Sarah, Kyle, Spiros, Marie, Larry, Rae, Krista, Madinah & Eric. We are a better state this morning. To others that worked hard but fell short. Thank you. Not winning is sad, but not trying is tragic.

Nationally…I allowed myself to believe that Biden’s unity message could break through America’s carapace of willful ignorance. So much for that. Biden can still win, but he’ll win the Presidency of a country wrecked by stupidity and greed. Huzzah!

Your All-Purpose DL DELAWARE Election Day Results Thread

Please limit this thread to comments and reports on the Delaware results only. Although…I suspect that as people perhaps imbibe a little bit along with the election results, mistakes could happen.  No harm, no foul. BTW, it took until well after 9 pm before we got any Delaware primary results in September.  When we got […]
