A local NAACP chapter wants a Middletown councilman to step down for attending the Jan. 6 Trump rally in Washington where the outgoing president claimed the election was stolen and urged supporters to "fight like hell."

A photo of Councilman Robert Stout at the event has been circulating on Facebook for the past few weeks. In the photo, Stout is standing in a crowd of Trump supporters on the National Mall with the Capitol in the distant background. He is wearing a jacket with the official Middletown seal and holding a "Save America" sign.

National Terrorism Advisory warns of potential threat from domestic extremists

The US Department of Homeland Security declared a nationwide terrorism alert Wednesday, citing the potential threat from domestic anti-government extremists opposed to Joe Biden as president. "Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence," the department said.
