Song of the Day 10/10: Public Enemy, “State of the Union (STFU)”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on October 10, 2020 0 Comments

After what seemed like a split between Chuck D and Flavor Flav this spring, Public Enemy released a new album in June, “What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down?” It might lack the power the group harnessed in its heyday, but it contains just as much anti-establishment fire. The chorus of this one […]

Trump Begs/Threatens Barr To Indict Obama, Clinton And Biden.  Appears to have been his plan all along. Some plan. Why Michigan Is Fertile Ground For Militias.  It kinda is two states. Federal Judge Upholds Cali’s Ban On Private Prisons.  Yes! Federal Judge Swats Down Ohio Voter Suppression.  Ditto in Texas.  No wonder Trump wants his […]

Comment Rescue: Was Trump Ever Sick?

Filed in National by on October 10, 2020 14 Comments

Over at BlueDelaware commenter, Ben, brought up something I’ve been thinking: . It seems to me at this point, occams razor says that he was never actually sick. All “reports” of him being gravely ill were unofficial anyway. Maybe he really DID test positive. maybe he didnt and there is an outbreak at the WH […]

The Worst Press Narratives of the Last 30 Years

Filed in National by on October 10, 2020 2 Comments

While I think it is dawning on Americans that Republicans, as a whole, are full of shit, grifters and bad people – the press continues to promote some hoary threadbare myths.

Republicans represent “real Americans”.
Republicans promote family values.
Republicans are “good for the economy”.
Republicans promote law and order.
Republicans are strong on defense.

It is all nonsense. It isn’t just Trump. I get why some dumb Fox News zombie can go around thinking this complete bullshit, but I don’t see how “the media” can still go around dishing this shit out.

Song of the Day 10/9: Johnny Nash, “Hold Me Tight”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on October 9, 2020 2 Comments

All the obituaries for Johnny Nash, who died Tuesday at 80, cited his biggest hit, “I Can See Clearly Now,” which topped the charts in 1972 and, thanks to TV commercials, has never left the public consciousness. It was the first reggae-influenced song to reach No. 1, but it wasn’t Nash’s first foray into Jamaican […]

Inside The Bizarre Cult That Democrats Have Pledged Not To Talk About. There are only about 1650 members nationwide. One has been nominated for the Supreme Court. But the D’s have unilaterally decided it’s off limits. Barr’s Hit Job Report Won’t Be ‘Ready’ Before Election.  Translation: There’s no ‘there’ there. Alaska Now A Senate Battleground.  […]

Donate to Network Delaware

This is from Delaware Dem, but I know El Som had a similar introduction to our great progressive candidates. Let’s keep the progressive momentum going and help Network Delaware get the full $50,000. Remember back to September 15th? Primary night in Delaware. When we were celebrating the victories of four stellar progressive leaders in Larry […]

Cooler Weather, College Students and Southerners Account for USA’s Rising COVID-19 Positives

If you like being an informed human, You’ll want to click through to the BBC article.

With about 7.5 million coronavirus cases, the US has the highest number of confirmed infections in the world – about 20% of the global total despite having only 4% of the population.
After the initial spike in late March, social distancing restrictions gradually brought infections to heel. By May, case numbers had stabilised. But as states peeled back lockdown measures, cases began to rise, reaching a countrywide high in July.

Delaware’s Most (Only?) Intriguing Races Of 2020: Part One

Fewer than usual, thanks to the implosion of the Rethuglican Party in Delaware.  Not even Chris Kenny’s cash infusions can save most of them, indeed, may not save any of them.  Even the least effective Democratic legislative challenger has a chance to win, just by the overwhelming D turnout advantage.  But that’s for later.  Let’s […]

Song of the Day 10/8: Roy Eldridge and Anita Love, “Ain’t No Flies on Me”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on October 8, 2020 1 Comment

Everybody sing along! Uh, not you, Mike. Jazz trumpeter Roy Eldridge is considered the bridge between Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie — his rapid runs helped give birth to be-bop, but he didn’t like the style. He also grew tired of the racism he encountered as the only black musician in otherwise white bands, so […]

Pence Wouldn’t Shut Up. Couldn’t Acknowledge Fly: Off (the fly) flew, and on Pence droned. He never exhibited any awareness — not the subtlest glance upward, not the slightest flinch or twitch — that his head had been colonized. I first found this strange and then realized it was everything. Pence’s years of obsequiousness to […]

VP Debate Open Thread

Filed in Featured, National by on October 7, 2020 14 Comments

We already got a preview from Scott Walker (the Wisconsin one), who aided in debate prep for Pence.  It’s gonna be that Trump somehow prevented 2 million deaths b/c Trump stopped travel from China (which he didn’t), and that, if Biden had his way, 2 million more would be dead.  Pence is no pushover–he’s a […]

Song of the Day 10/7: Van Halen, “Right Now”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on October 7, 2020 1 Comment

There are lots of songs that show Eddie Van Halen’s electric guitar wizardry, but focusing on his flash shortchanges his musicianship. Van Halen — who, it should be noted, was an immigrant with a half-Polynesian mother, making him a person of color — studied piano as a child, took up drums as an adolescent, then […]
