Song of the Day 8/25: Santana feat. Michelle Branch, “The Game Of Love”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on August 25, 2023 6 Comments

You can better understand the sentiment behind the line “hope I die before I get old” when you see what reactionaries some of rock’s elder statesmen have become. Eric Clapton and Van Morrison revealed themselves – well, re-revealed themselves – as selfish twits during the Covid crisis. Now Carlos Santana has come out, mid-concert, as […]

That. Mug. Shot. (Fulton County Sheriff’s Office) At first, I was fixated by the Death Stare, figuring that Trump had rehearsed this ad nauseum in order to look as resolute as Winston Churchill in that famous WW II photo. Then, inevitably, my eyes became riveted on his ‘dome-icile’, and what does, or doesn’t, reside therein.  […]

Song of the Day 8/24: The Tubes, “She’s a Beauty”

The biggest surprise about the right-wing freakout over drag queens is that they haven’t yet shifted the focus to porn. If they’re going to get upset over men putting women’s clothes on, imagine their reaction to women taking their clothes off. Maybe they’re just so accustomed to sex being used to sell everything else that […]

Didn’t watch the debate.  Didn’t watch the commentary after the debate.  That ‘climate change is a hoax’ would seem to be disqualifying, though.  Even to Rethugs.  Pretty sure that farmers don’t think it’s a hoax. However, pretty sure ‘the media’ needs Vivek, so we’re gonna get an endless hype train–until it’s time to toss him […]

Your Hot Takes on the GOP Shit Show

Filed in National by on August 23, 2023 5 Comments

I’ll start…Far fewer Hunter Biden mentions than I expected.

Vivek helped himself among Republicans by being all fighty.   Christie was terrible. Vivek knocked his off his ganme by out yelling him and blinding him with his tooth glare.   DeSantis mostly disappeared  into the hedges like the Homer Simpson meme and let the others attack Vivek.  Haley made some actual points that will be widely ignored.   All in all, the Republican Party was revelaed to be pretty awful. Pro-climate change, pro-rapists rights, pro-national abortion ban, anti-decency, and against weaponization of the DOJ unless they occupy the White House.

Handicapping Tonight’s GOP Shitshow

Trump is going to take part in tonight’s debate courtesy of Fox News showing clips of his greatness.   That is all you basically need to know about the remaining nobodies in the stage.   I’m going to watch as much as I can prior to puking.  Here is what I’ll be looking for. Burgum: Who? Next. […]

Song of the Day 8/23: The Specials, “You’re Wondering Now”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on August 23, 2023 2 Comments

The stories about all those Jan. 6 co-conspirators crying the blues about their legal bills … as someone put it, they signed up for fucking around, not finding out. As always with Trump, the finding out involves being stuck with the invoice. The Specials popularized this 1964 ska tune by seminal producer Coxsone Dodd (credited […]

A couple of things about Trump joking about fleeing the country

Filed in National by on August 22, 2023 4 Comments

Trump posted to his Truth Social platform that gaming out the methods by which he could flee the country. Here’s the thing – 1) He would still win the GOP nomination because Republicans a braindead cult members. 2) Do it. The failed District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta), Fani Willis, insisted on a $200,000 Bond […]

DE’s Most Intriguing Legislative Races Of 2024: #7–RD 2

I could do #’s 5, 6 and 7 in pretty much any order.  We’re talking three absolutely abysmal incumbents with no (so far) challengers, either announced or rumored.  I’ve ordered them from those doing (IMO) the least damage to those doing the most damage. They, all, however, have done significant damage. Career hack Stephanie Bolden […]

Guest post by Nathan Arizona Tim Hardin and his fans had a reason to believe. He could write much-loved songs like the one with that title. “If I Were a Carpenter” was his too. And “Misty Roses.” And “Don’t Make Promises.” Bob Dylan called him the best singer-songwriter of the ‘60s. He was offered the […]
