Battle of the Blogs is On

Over at First State Lunatics, Dave Burris has recognized the superiority of DelawareLiberal.net. As an homage to our excellent situation here, Dave has added some brethren of his own. MOTNewbie has changed his name to MOTSmitty. A new blogger named Jeff Mapson goes by the name AboveTheCanalPolitics. We here at DelawareLiberal.Net welcome these guys to the blogosphere. It’s going to be a fun summer.

Dace, Hube and Tommywonk on WILM Saturday Morning

Hube from The Colossus of Rhodey and Tom will be once again joining Dace Blaskovitz on this Saturday’s edition of his “Money & Politics in Delaware” program on WILM, 1450 on your AM dial.

The show airs every Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 on WILM. Hube and I come on at 10:30.

They’ll be talking about who’s likely to be our next governor, energy, schools local politics, presidential politics and more.

Around the Horn Friday: We Put the Con in NeoCon Edition

Finally a Bush appointee is held accountable for their behavior. It can’t be easy to find a woman willing to put up with you if you are Wolfowitz, but stay legal. Good thing she didn’t want him to kill someone.

The Princess Blogger Celia Cohen kicked off a debate about the most anticipated Delaware matchup since the cancelled Carper/Castle battle that never was. Jason covered it here and garnered the most hits for a single story that I can find. Tommywonk has one of the definitive posts on the subject including a smackdown of Dave Burris and his bravado about how Alan Levin scares the Dems. I like both of ’em and one will be the next Guv’ner.

Of course, the death of Jerry Falwell kicked up as much controversy locally as he did when he was alive and lying. No tears are shed over at Delaware Watch. It is way worse than that over at DWA.

Thankfully, wind is still a hot topic. Nancy covers Denn’s Kabuki dance reference. Tommywonk debunks Minner’s ill-considered compromise. Dana jumps all over the BS union resistance myth. Finally, Kavips brings it all together and puts it in context of quality of life.

Mike Mahaffie has a post about a womans dying wish. Sounds like a good idea.

Over at Pencader Days, Duffy has a post describing some of the difficulties of raising a child with autism. As a former teacher in the Autism Program, I read a lot that brought back memories of those days.

MOT Newbie continues his mission of posting after Around the Horn goes to press. So in honor of him, please support the mail carriers food drive last Saturday.

Happy 21st Ryan Mc at Liberal Delight.

Protack is asking for suggestions about what to do with the Chrysler plant. Finally, I agree with Mike. Hey Mike, while you are at it, get MD to extend the MARC up here and we can make the Chrysler plant a regional tech hub.

FSP has an invite to meet his man Mitt at a BBQ in Greenville on June 1. $15 gets you an audience with Mitt and all the direct mail you can eat for the next 2 years.

Finally, Paul Smith and I agree on something. Sayid is the brains of the outfit on LOST.

Over at JttR Ryan S is mirepresenting Democratic views of Al Qaeda. SSDD.

Kilroy is pointing out what is at stake with the Red Clay referendum. If Fulcher gets his way, Red Clay might collapse. Hube points out some more insanity with Fulcher. Fulcher taught?!?!

By the way,  a minimum of 63,929 civilians have been killed in Iraq since we attacked.  Another 3400 American personnel have been killed in this bullshit war.  Enjoy your weekend.

Hold Politicians Accountable All Year Round

[Music: Some finger picking guitar in the background]

Voice: Rumor has it politicians are only held accountable during election years. We at Delaware liberal.com want to make politicians like Mike Castle and George Bush accountable all year round. There is a lot going on in the state of Delaware that so many of us don’t know about. Our “reporters” (insert laugh track there) work (insert laugh track) day and night to pull together information not available to you on an up to the minute basis.

Don’t get us wrong, Traditional Media is a great source of information and we would never say that what they do isn’t important. But, when you go the Supermarket, you don’t want stale bread, you want the stuff that is fresh. Day old bread is for the birds, get the fresh stuff at Delaware Liberal.

Joins the dicussion at delawareliberal.wordpress.com for refreshing insight to local politics, a point of view that bucks traditional media as well as a constantly updated source of information.

It’s free, easy and you may even lose weight but we don’t guarantee that part. At Delaware liberal we may never figure out how to make money, but we know how to make change.

Check yourself for these signs of liberalism

(In the form of a public service announcement.) Hushed sober voice: Did you know that 6 our of 10 Americans are liberals? Liberalism can strike at any time and any place without warning.

Check yourself for these signs of liberalism.

Do you think American workers should be treated fairly? Do you think politicians like Mike Castle and George Bush accountable all year round and not just during election years. Do you think people should be left alone to worship God in thier own way, or EVEN not believe in God if they don’t want to? Do you agree that elections should be clean and fair? Do you want the United States to get out of Iraq? AND think President Bush is doing a horrible job?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might be a liberal.

If you see signs of liberalism in yourself or your family, there is hope. Get to the blog Dealwareliberal. Join the discussion – it’s a free country (for now…)

Newspaper’s just tell you what the the corporate office wants you to hear

[Music: Mission Imposible theme Cross fade to “The internets ARE TUBES!!” by Alaska Senator Ted Stevens]

The Voice: Are you getting you political news from the Newspaper? What!? You are! You are a day and half behind AT LEAST! Time to step it up. I bet you don’t milk a cow in the morning to get milk for your Rice Crispies?

Of course you don’t!

If you care about politics in Delaware, you need to check out Delawareliberal(dot)wordpress(dot)com.

Newspaper’s just tell you what the the corporate office wants you to hear. Delawareliberal has news that is not watered down and pasturized into vapor.

Not only that, but on Delawareliberal – you can take part in shaping the news. The lively discussions and debates about today’s media and politics help turn up the heat on our elected officials.

Around the Horn Friday: Hoppin’ Down the the Bunny Trail Edition

It has been a busy week for me personally, so sorry that I haven’t posted much. Damn corporate intrigue. Luckily, in my relative absence, donviti has stepped in and filled the void. Great posts dude. Myself, Tom Noyes, Jason and donviti (just missing Dr. Nick) all converged on Iron Hill last week for Drinking Liberally. I highly recommend it. Tom Noyes gives out autographs, too. This week also saw the early return of Jason under the new handle of Jason330. Welcome back friend.

The big news in the blogosphere this week is the arrival of MOT Newbie’s baby girl. Make sure you stop by and wish the family well. He is a friend and a gentleman and a good Dad, I bet. Hope the hiatus is short term.

Tommywonk has some comments culled from the PSC filings of friends of wind power. Great catches, those.

Donviti has a surprise [snark] winner in the recent corn production surge. It ain’t the little guy.

Over at Delaware Watch, Dana has some decorating tips for legislators. pulled from the “slippery like dumplings” Thurman Adams’ filings.

KarmicJay has some yummy recipes (mmmm FLAN!) and some Zen of being a hybrid owner. I can relate.

The big can of whoop-ass is opened on the bubble-boy and his cabal over at kavips. Also some comment rescue and drug-induced flashback.

Over at Liberal Delight, Ryan is already starting to get into the Philadelphia spirit by feeling a sensation of impending doom over the Phillies. Only 159 games to go.

At Delaware Way, Nancy celebrates a victory on preserving some historic land in Pencader hundred. Rock on Nancy.

Blog Queen, Celia Cohen, has some analysis of the two seats that Republicans are trying to defend, plus other positions they may have to fill.

Mike Mahaffie has found an interesting photo site with some historical pictures. He also has found a Delaware shaped puddle. He also included me in his April Fools round-up (Sorry, Dave).

Pencader Days thinks that we need benchmarks, not timetables in Iraq. I’m not convinced, but there is a lot to mull over in the post.

Mike Protack is suggesting that we need to make the tax system more simple. Guess who bought the 67,000 pages of loopholes…

Hube has a post about minority comics. Now we know how to set him off… Actually, how do you NOT set him off…

Dave Burris has returned from a self-imposed hiatus. Welcome back, Dave. He has a post comparing our budgetary process and New Jersey’s, holding it up as a reason for HB4 to be considered directly by the Senate.

OK, so Gazizza is worth it today just to see the Worst. First. Pitch. Ever. It’s Good Friday, so I’ll be nice to Paul.

Into Good and Evil has an egg hunt (Now with more spermy goodness) . Nothing like sperm to get you in the Easter spirit.

Over at JttR, Ryan has a riff on a John Lennon Tune “All we are saying is give surge a chance…” Right, what’s the worst that can happen…? Oh yeah a civil war with our guys standing in the middle.

Kilroy wants you to know about HB28. It is a school funding bill for leasing of facilities.

That’s all we’ve got. Next week keep an eye out for an interview with Bryon Short. Happy Easter all.

Crashing the Gate

Howdy folks, I’m X Stryker, and I’ll be your host during Jason’s vacation week. I’m an Obama fan, and a frequent commenter on Swing State Project. I’m not one to shy away from controversy, so I’ll get straight to business:

Dana‘s exposing more double dipping from Democratic state legislators, and provides an outlet in the comments section for GOP renegades like Mike Protack and Tyler Nixon to vent. We definitely need ethics reform in the state legislature, but where will it come from? As Cracker said, “if you wanna change the world, shut your mouth and start to spin it.” So, here is my challenge to the readership:

  1. Name progressive Democratic state legislators that we can try to engage to bring more accountability and progressive action to our caucus. John Kowalko comes to mind.
  2. Pick the establishment Democratic state legislator that you think is the most odious, and would make the best target for a primary challenge. You can only pick !!ONE!!,  so don’t give me a laundry list of everyone you don’t like, unless you want me to make fun of your inability to follow directions. Keep in mind, the ideal candidate is someone that we can replace with a progressive or populist DEMOCRAT, not a seat where any challenge essentially would amount to handing the seat to a socially conservative Republican.

The idea is to turn our frustration into action. Number one is about mobilizing the Good Guys, and giving them the support and encouragement to be a force for change. Number two is all about focus – the establishment is very strong. You can’t fight on every front at once and expect to win. They’ve got the power, the money, and the media – all we have is moral high ground, enthusiasm, and the efficiency of the blogosphere.

By the way – Drinking Liberally comes to Klondike Kates’s in Newark tonight at 8:00. I’ll be there, although I am a bit shy in person. Good times will probably be had, so come on down, knock back a few, and chat with other local liberals. They’re having a coat drive for Operation Warm to provide coats to disadvantaged children, so if you can bring a new (preferred) or used coat that would be very cool.
