Welcome to the Blogosphere, Gov. Markell

Filed in National by on February 22, 2010 25 Comments

Today, Governor Markell launched his new blog. His first post is titled Dedicated to You: Amazing and Awe-Inspiring and it details some of the heroics of state workers during the storm. Right on cue, a commenter identifying themselves as “Employee” made this comment:

It’s so nice to hear about how hard my fellow employees work. However, you forget to mention the money we have lost, and the benefits that some of us don’t have. I have been working for the state for over two years with no raise, a pay cut, and no benefits.

Governor Markell Surveys the Political Landscape on CBS News

…and pretty much owns this interviewer. He talks about the Coons-Castle race at about the 5 minute mark and says nice things. The Gov is quite good at this kind of thing, I think — he needs a better questioner than this reporter tho. If you hang until the end, there is a piece on […]

Who Will Run and How Do They Stack Up?

Filed in National by on January 26, 2010 34 Comments

With Beau Biden’s withdrawal from the Senate race yesterday, we have a lot of scrambling going on. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of each of the prospective Democratic candidates.

First, let’s dispense with Lt. Governor Matt Denn. I spoke to him yesterday. He isn’t going to run. His two kids come first in his life, and not seeing them for days at a time would be an abdication of his most important role. But let me say for the record, he would be my first choice.

Governor Markell gave his State of the State address yesterday. Just from reading this, the Governor still sees plenty of fiscal […]

Governor Markell Discusses Delaware as a Wind Energy Hub

Governor Markell addressed the AWEA’s Offhsore Wind Workshop a few weeks back, highlighting his plans to make Delaware a hub of offshore wind energy expertise and manufacturing. We’ve been enthusiastic about this previously, and we’re still enthusiastic. Starting with the U of D really evolving as a major research center for applied alternate energy strategies, to the Bluewater Wind effort, to work to manufacture components here there is great groundwork to grow a real next generation piece of the economy right here.

Bulo’s 2009 Top 10 MVPs (Most Valuable to the Progressive Cause)

Filed in National by on November 23, 2009 42 Comments

I am El Somnambulo, and I am a listaholic. 2009, IMHO, was a great year for Delaware progressives, maybe the best ever. Both equal rights for same sex couples and open government legislation were signed into law. A governor with a progressive vision began to make his mark on the state. A president began to […]

Okay. Mike Castle is our Next Senator. It has been decided on high.

All the signs are pointing to a Castle Senate run and I appears that the fix is in. Just check out the Newark Post coverage of the AMTRACK stimulus event:

The Amtrak Bear Car Shops took time out to celebrate the completion of the first passenger car to be rebuilt with stimulus funds.

Sen. Thomas Carper, Gov. Jack Markell and U.S. Rep. Mike Castle joined Amtrak CEO Joseph Boardman and employees at the sprawling complex off Route 40 to tour the rebuilt car that was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

UPDATED: WDEL 1150AM 1pm to 4pm / July 13th – 17th – Be there

UPDATE: I have to urge everyone to tune in and listen to Matt Denn this afternoon. The guy is funny as hell and very unguarded for a politician. He is also a sports nut (but hates hockey with a white hot passion) so he might be able to answer any Philly sports questions that are nagging at you provided they are not about hockey.

Normally at that time and channel, the airwaves are being polluted by the execrable Rick Jensen. However, with Jensen having puss drained out of the growth on his back this week, the show looks promising.

Bell to Bell

Filed in Delaware by on May 19, 2009 58 Comments

I’ve been trying to write a post about the Delaware Education Association‘s Bell to Bell Week and I’ve been stimied. Teachers throughout Delaware (except Delmar — thanks News Journal) are only working from the start of classes to the end of classes — bell to bell — to protest Gov. Markell’s proposed pay cut for […]
