Can We Learn From This?
There’s been an interesting evolution in the DL comment section. I wanted to give my take on it.
Whenever the subjects of race, women’s issues, religion (mostly concerning Muslims), LGBT, etc. come up and white privilege is pointed out we hear white people quickly saying “not all white people” and then sharing their reasons as to why they are the exceptions to whatever is being discussed. This derails the conversation, moving it away from whatever social issue is being discussed and putting the focus on white people’s concerns. I have lost count on the number of posts on DL where this has happened, and I’d like to figure out how we can stop doing this.
The Daily Homophobe, Mike Protack Edition
Mike Protack really, really doesn’t want anal or oral sex to be a part of the Boy Scouts.
Happy DADT Repeal Day!
The repeal of the discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell law will be officially certified today.
Change In My Lifetime
Real change takes a long time and a lot of hard work. No one has worked harder for change than LGBT activists and it’s paid off. Bill Clinton signed DADT (remember this was considered a step forward at the time) and DOMA. In 2004, Republicans were putting anti-marriage equality laws on the ballot to boost […]
Late Night Video — Senators Tell LGBT Youth That It Gets Better
This is excellent — several U.S. Senators film another bit of support to LGBT youth, sending the message that it does get better. MANY props to Senator Chris Coons who is a big participant here.
COLAGE
The News Journal wrote a story of the group COLAGE, a group that supports the children of gay and lesbian parents.
What Is A Hate Group?
The Southern Poverty Law Center named 13 anti-gay groups as hate groups. Not to be outdone, the Tea Party Nation made it’s own list of hate groups: the ACLU, the NAACP, the Department of Homeland Security, SPLC and the SEIU.
Cindy McCain Lies
What a weak, pathetic woman. Shame on me for thinking she had a backbone (and a part of me is hoping that this is a big misunderstanding – that someone hijacked her twitter account). Geez, why even make the ad if you’re going to cave? And either she doesn’t support the NOH8 campaign, and is okay with treating the LGBT community as second class citizens, or there’s some major dysfunction in the McCain marriage.
DADT Vote Next Week
The Senate will take up the Defense Authorization bill next week, which contains the DADT repeal.
The Ghost Whisperer
DADT repeal has been a hot topic this year, and surprisingly uncontroversial. The repeal is supported by more than 70% of Americans. John McCain has become one of the leaders in Congress against DADT-repeal. At one point during the hearing, McCain showed a letter which he claimed had been retired military officers against the repeal. […]
President Obama Signs Hate Crimes Act Today
The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act was signed by President Obama in a White House ceremony today. This new law is an amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill, which will be signed in a separate event to day. This long needed law (and one promised by the Obama campaign):
Get The Champagne Ready
Sources tell us that SB 121 (AKA HB 5) has passed the Senate after a 4 hour debate. All the amendments have been defeated. The bill now goes to the House for debate. Watch here for details! Update 8:52 PM: Delaware Politics reports that the bill has passed the House as well. Update 9:34 PM: […]
