Sunday Open Thread — Oscars Edition! [2.26.12]
Tonite the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents their awards for 2011 film achievements. If you are outside of this industry, the interest in the Oscars seems to be either, 1) Dishy — what they wore, who they were with, what they screwed up or 2) Snobby — mostly centered around the perceived lack of artistry in the nominations. I’m in Camp 2. So what do you think about this year’s nominations? Join us below and tell us who you think will win, what should have been nominated and preview the night’s gossip.
Wednesday Open Thread [2.22.12]
Rick Santorum is now the stronger general election candidate against President Obama. I assume the reason for that is he inspires social theocratic fascists and is largely unknown to the rest of the general nonpartisan population, while Romney is now pretty much hated by everyone everywhere.
Tuesday Open Thread [2.21.12]
Here is something different: a poll of primary voters about who they want as Vice President. Now, I imagine that none of the four contenders will be picked as a Vice President nominee by the eventual winner. The four contenders are each toxic in their own right, and the toxic winner will need some fresh air to rehabiliate his campaign for the fall, and that means a fresh face. And yet, Santorum shockingly comes in second.
Monday Open Thread [2.20.12]
We a special Presidents’ Day Quiz, and some new polling results in Michigan and Texas. In Michigan, the race is getting closer, and in Texas, Mitt Romney comes in third, nearly thirty points behind the frontrunner.
Saturday Open Thread [2.11.12]
I’d almost forgotten it was winter, with daffodils coming up and willow trees budding already. Unfortunately for most of my friends, I am a fan of winter and look forward to a few snow days each season, so am hoping there will be a proper snostorm before it is all said and done. But here we are, cruising the internets and catching up on the stuff that happened during the week:
Friday Open Thread [2.10.12]
Gingrich’s sugar daddy, casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, says he is done contributing to the Super PAC backing Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign. So that is the end of Gingrich.
Thursday Open Thread [2.9.12]
Earlier this morning I said Rush Limbaugh was right. It pained me to type those words, but in that instance, in describing his own party, his own base, he should be right since they follow his command. Rush being right in that context is far different than being right morally, legally and ethically. Like Bill O’Reilly is in the following instance. Click through for that and more polling goodness.
Sunday Open Thread [2.5.12]
It is Super Bowl Sunday and many of you are tending to the food and drinks (and fine tuning the color calibrations on your TVs) that you’ll serve at your parties this evening. In case you’ve a few lazy minutes today to catch up on some reading, the theme of this Open Thread is The Media.
Thursday Open Thread (2.2.12)
This one’s for you, Jason! Other than that… I got nothing. I’m blogged out today!
Sunday Open Thread [1.29.12]
So what is going on today? Commenter TT reminded me of just how wonderful House of Cards is, and that I haven’t seen it for awhile. Time to fix that. TT notes that it is streaming on Netflix AND it is streaming on Amazon. So pick your preferred delivery method and go.
Saturday Open Thread [1.28.12]
It is a gorgeous day outside and hope that everyone is having some fun today. But if you are inside catching up on paperwork, reading or just looking through recipes for goodies to cook for Super Bowl Sunday (yawn), use this thread to talk about what interests you today or news we should be paying attention to.
