The Economy Speech — President Obama Speaks Live at 1:05 Today

President Obama is speaking today at 1:05 about the economy and (presumably) about the so-called "fiscal cliff" that will roll back the Bush tax cuts and implement serious cuts to several government agencies (including the DOD). Remember throughout all of this -- the GOP and their Democratic deficit hawks have been publicly hand wringing about too much spending and too big deficits. Just letting these two things happen put a substantial dent into both. That's just basic math. There's not many hints as to where President Obama will take this conversation, but there are some hints.

Some Idle Thoughts on the National Election

1. Barack Hussein Obama, the 'Community Organizer'. Remember the ridicule from the Rethugs on this meme? Like he was some two-bit operator pocketing suspect government contracts? Well, Obama effectively organized by far the best grassroots organization ever, and he and his political team have effectively trained hundreds of brilliant community organizers who will be running insurgent campaigns for the foreseeable future. And doing great work outside of the field of politics. BTW, many of these brilliant and idealistic organizers will also populate ballots themselves for the next twenty years or so. Guess what? He is a great community organizer, only the community is the entire country. Or, at least, every tiny community in every swing battleground state in the country.

Last Night’s Debate: Libya

Delaware Dem is buried under polling numbers, so I'm jumping in on this - with DD's blessing! There are two separate issues concerning the exchange on Libya last night.  I'll deal with the easy one first.

Obama’s 47% Ad

This ad hits every note by linking Romney's 47% statement on taxes to his own, not yet released, taxes.

POTUS As Press Critic

This is an article close to my news junkie heart: President Obama is an Avid Reader, and Critic, of the News. This is worth reading for the whole (short) thing, but I was intrigued that he read his news mostly via iPad (where you really could read all of the newspapers -- take that Sarah Palin!) and that he watches very little TV news. And I admit intrigued because this is largely how I get my news -- I can wade through the information, get a sense of the narratives out there without having to sit through the dumbed down shoutfests. But that's just me. And the President.

See What Crazy Eileen Started – UPDATED

We all remember Crazy Eileen, one of the first birthers to go public. Well, Arizona, not satisfied with being the batshit crazy place it’s become, has just added a new ingredient to the mix – birtherism. Their Secretary of State has indicated he may not allow President Obama’s name to appear on the ballot because he’s not convinced he was born in the US.
