Deputy Treasurer and the Abuse of a State Credit Card

By request of commenter Nuttingham, this topic now has its own thread. The NJ reported on Sunday about the Deputy Treasurer’s misuse of her state-issued credit card. They document about $2100 in personal charges on the card, that were — eventually — reimbursed. The key part of this article (for me, at any rate) was the fact that the Finance Department flagged this pattern of misuse and couldn’t get the attention of anyone in the Treasurer’s Office. Yesterday, the Deputy Treasurer resigned and his morning, the NJ expands the report on her resignation:

FDU Poll: Carney Leads By 17%, Flowers-Bonini Tied

John Carney leads Glen Urquhart by 17% (53%-36%) in the U.S. House race. Flowers and Bonini are tied (42%-41%) and Wagner leads Korn by 10%. Beau Biden has a 42% lead over the Libertarian and write-in Republican candidate for Attorney General.

Shadow Campaign for Treasurer

There has been a rotten thread running through the Treasurer’s race this year. The thread is that one campaign is trying to destroy their opponent on the way to the Democratic nomination. This is unbecoming of the two fine candidates that are competing to battle Colin Bonini in the fall. Sadly, the force behind this shadow campaign of destruction is so close to one of the candidates that the solution isn’t as simple as firing a staffer.
