We’re poorer. In 2007 dollars, the average family in 2001 had $700 more dollars in net worth than the average family in 2007. That $700 was obviously my veggie budget.

There’s a Knot in My Stomach

Filed in Delaware, National by on February 11, 2009 49 Comments

I’ve been walking around with a knot in my stomach for months, only I didn’t realize it until yesterday… as I unpacked the groceries.  Where were the fruits and vegetables?  Surely I bought them, but when I looked at the counter the evidence of being a bad mother hit me between the eyes.  Bad mother, […]

Question…

Filed in National by on February 4, 2009 34 Comments

Much has been made of Obama’s proposal to cap executive pay.  So here’s my question:  Do taxpayers have a right to say how their money is spent? I keep thinking that if you came to me asking to borrow money because you couldn’t pay your mortgage, and I lend you the money, and then you spend […]

Circuit City…

Filed in Delaware by on January 16, 2009 22 Comments

I bought my first digital camera and my camcorder at Circuit City.  They were great for credit terms.  Over that past few weeks I have been eyeing a new plasma HDTV.  I had it picked out.  CC had a deal of 18 months same as cash.  This is not a problem for me personally and […]

Deep (or not so deep) Thought on the Economy

Filed in National by on December 20, 2008 9 Comments

It seems that things I need, like food, water, electricity, oil, and healthcare, are costing a lot more than things I want, like cashmere, televisions, computers, and shoes.  Talk about a financial slippery slope!  You’ll be happy to know I’ve shown remarkable restraint… well, except for those fabulous Steve Madden black pumps for 70% off.

Deliberate Incompetence

Filed in National by on December 15, 2008 20 Comments

I have reached the conclusion that the last eight years weren’t the stumblings of an incompetent frat boy, but rather, a deliberate effort to bring our country to its knees.  I believe what we are witnessing is the Republican version of Tough Love – which might be more accurately described as spousal abuse, as in… […]

This morning I went on a mission.  I got a call from a friend on Saturday that there was a report of a homeless family living in a small wooded area nearby.  He told me that he was going out there today to investigate and see what could be done.  He joked that he would […]

Good Economic News On The Horizon

Filed in National by on October 9, 2008 5 Comments

As the Dow dips below 9,000 for the first time since 2003, I wanted to give you all a glass half full scenario. Once the Dow levels off, we’ll begin to cheer it on as it climbs above 10,000. Remember how much fun that was when the Dow surpassed 10,000. We get to live it […]

How Will You Be Stimulated?

Filed in Uncategorized by on March 28, 2008 18 Comments

In the next several months most of us will be receiving economic stimulus checks.  The intent is to try to pull this economy out of its recession death-spiral.  So how will you spend your money? Unfortunately for the economy, I plan to spend mine on a cottage rental in Nova Scotia in August.

Did Anyone Else Hear This Drivel?

Filed in Uncategorized by on March 21, 2008 43 Comments

On the way into work this AM I heard a Republican DE lawmaker Joe Fitzgerald of the NCC Chamber making some point about how unfair it was to business owners to raise the minimum wage. The quote was something like ‘Let’s face it, the price of everything is going up these days and some of […]
