I’m a little over stories about the GOP “waking up” to the fact that Trump is box office poison.  I mean, we all know that the Republican base doesn’t give a flying fuck about what Asa Hutchison and Senator Bill Cassidy think, right?

The guy inside the Bush admin who knew the invasion of Iraq was a huge mistake, but signed off anyway

When Powell delivered his pro-invasion speech at the U.N., did you know he was standing in front of Picasso’s Guernica, (shrouded that day)? How ironic to deliver the US into the hands of war, while standing in front of Picasso’s condemnation of same.

    • Alby says:

Thank you for that reminder, Paul.

To be clear, it was not Picasso’s painting at the UN but a tapestry commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller that he loaned to the UN until earlier this year, when his heirs asked for it back.

The original painting is in Madrid. For many years it was in New York’s MOMA, and we are coming up on the 40th anniversary of its return to Spain, which Picasso forbade until democracy and public liberties were returned to the country.

Guernica is near the north coast of Spain, in Basque country, and it angers Basque partisans that the painting is in Madrid. The Basques have, since the opening of the Guggenheim Bilboa, been agitating to have it moved there, about 20 miles from Guernica.

I suppose it shouldn’t surprise us that such a pointedly political painting became a political football itself.

You gotta see the video McGuiness posted to Twitter and Facebook today. She’s out of her mind. This is some bizarre shit.
