Chris Coons Is The Absolute Dirt-Worst:
Sen. Chris Coons (D) and three other senators have introduced legislation that would create new federal charges for people who intentionally target law enforcement officers in deadly attacks.
Coons introduced the Protect and Serve Act of 2026 with Republican Sens. Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Mike Crapo (Idaho) and Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.).
The legislation follows targeted attacks that killed law enforcement officers in Delaware and North Carolina. Coons said the Delaware shooting that prompted his involvement was the Dec. 23, 2025, killing of Cpl. Grade One Matthew “Ty” Snook at a Wilmington Division of Motor Vehicles office.
According to Delaware State Police, the gunman had entered the DMV, shortly before noon, left without conducting business, then returned just before 2 p.m. After obtaining a queue ticket, the suspect waited several minutes before ambushing Snook from behind at the welcome desk, firing multiple shots through a glass partition.
“No law enforcement officer should have to fear for their lives just because they put on their badge before they go to work each day. Yet too many officers have been killed in targeted attacks designed specifically to take the lives of law enforcement, leaving a gaping tear in the hearts of spouses, parents, children, and communities,” said Coons.
The Protect and Serve Act would establish a new federal crime for people who kill or seriously hurt law enforcement officers in targeted attacks intended to kill them solely because they are law enforcement officers.
Kids, I have a question: Is there a more protected class of people than law enforcement officers? How many times can you convict the same person for the same crime? If Chris wants his picture taken with cops he can simply go to an Academy graduation ceremony or something. Of all the things that Coons should be concerned about, but isn’t, this kind of grandstanding is what he opts for?
OK, now you’ve got me started. This is part of what I consider an unseemly canonization of Trooper Snook. Why? Because I don’t think we’ve been told the entire story about his death.
Let me first state that in no way do I condone what happened to the officer. He was murdered. I also do not consider myself a conspiracy theorist, although we have a few commenters who I’d place in that category.
However, I don’t think we’ve been told the entire story about what precipitated this crime. And, yes, I believe that the AG’s office and the police themselves know more than what they’ve told us.
Yes, there’s a story floating out there. While it in no way forgives the murder, it provides context that could, well, change the narrative.
I agree with the representation of this shooting as a ‘deliberate and targeted attack’. The shooter was specifically after Trooper Snook, not just any cop.
The answer as to why Snook was specifically targeted has never been sufficiently explained, at least, not to my satisfaction. All we have is a narrative from police:
Prior to the shooting, Rose – who had lived in Connecticut but was most recently staying in the Wilmington area – had told those who knew him that he believed police were targeting him and that he was concerned law enforcement was coming after him, investigators said.
Rose had also recently posted anti-police content on social media and claimed he was the victim of “gang stalking,” believing he was constantly being watched and harassed by the government and law enforcement entities.
Investigators believe Rose acted alone and found no evidence that he had conspired with others in the attack. Investigators also said that Rose had limited contact with Delaware law enforcement prior to the shooting but none of those interactions were criminal in nature, resulted in an arrest or involved Cpl/1 Snook. Detectives determined the shooting was a “deliberate and targeted attack on law enforcement.”
None of this answers the question ‘Why Snook’? Rose sat in reception at the DMV until the opportunity was best. Both he and Snook made sure that patrons were not at risk.
Without being specific, the story that is out there would ascribe a motive to Rose. It would, to an extent, slow down Snook’s passage to martyrdom. I don’t know if the story is true. All I know is that the explanation that is out there is vague and murky and doesn’t answer the question, ‘Why Snook’? What if there was an interaction between Snook and Rose, and/or an interaction between Snook and somebody Rose knew?
Well, I guess that does, some eighteen years in as a blogger, make me a conspiracy theorist. It took this case to do it. Make of it what you will.
Establishment Democrats Are Just Figuring This Out??:
Around the country this summer, underdog democratic socialists and their allies have scored a series of victories over traditional Democrats with superior messaging and organizing tactics that have terrified the party establishment, caused them to burn through gobs of cash and left them asking: How do progressives keep getting away with this? The latest example came last week in Michigan, where Representative Haley Stevens lost in a Senate primary race to Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive former public health official, despite her massive spending advantage.
The left’s recent victories make clear what has worked: face-to-face campaigning, personal testimonials from supporters and an easy-to-embrace outsider message. The campaigns themselves say the secret is in the basics. They have built old-fashioned ground games, harnessing the anger and energy on the left to recruit armies of volunteers, who in turn have greeted the moment’s protest movement with open arms.
These campaigns have also offered specific, bold messages: that universal health care is a right, that the Democratic Party is beholden to corporate interests and that the United States is complicit in the deaths of thousands in Gaza. One of the most important components, they say, has been face-to-face conversations with voters, even as the campaigns have also embraced smart targeting on social media and run some traditional TV spots.
Left-wing campaigns also argued that some of their more mainstream primary opponents had erred by spending most of their resources on advertising while failing to actually excite voters with direct outreach or by crafting positions that appeal to them.
Is this mic on? This is how/why candidates endorsed by WFP have been winning elections in this state for years now. It’s been no secret to us.
Yet One More Item Missing From Democrats’ ‘Affordability Agenda’:
YOU MIGHT THINK DEMOCRATS would be up in arms over the violence perpetrated by the Trump administration and its agencies in implementing its deportation agenda.
And on its official social media channels, the Democratic party has issued powerful statements, as well as posts highlighting the last words of those killed by state violence.
But a closer look reveals that that social media energy has not translated into actual midterm messaging.
On July 26, less than two weeks after Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero’s death in Maine, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries unveiled the party’s “Fighting for an Affordable America” agenda in Pennsylvania alongside Gov. Josh Shapiro. The program made clear how the Democrats are framing the run-in to the midterms, with a focus on pocketbook issues such as (in the AP’s summary) “restoring healthcare cuts, bringing the cost of living down and ending the war in Iran to beat Republicans and hold President Donald Trump accountable.”
Glaringly absent from the Democratic priorities: reining in ICE abuses.
Again, it’s not that Democrats aren’t aware of the case for urgent action on Trump’s deportation regime. Privately, immigration advocacy groups have been pushing for them to speak out. Just four days before Jeffries’s agenda unveiling and before the August recess, a hundred Democratic members of Congress were briefed on the stakes of—and the electoral opportunity in—facing Trump’s brutal anti-immigrant program head-on.
The proof is in the polling. A Fox News survey from mid-July shows voters now trust Democrats on immigration more than they do Republicans, eating into a previously winning issue for the GOP.
The party’s left flank long ago began to heed the call to push back against Trump more assertively on immigration, but their more moderate colleagues have often seemed more hesitant. Chris Newman, legal director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) and an attorney for Ábrego García, published an opinion article this week titled “Trump’s Immigration Policies Have Been Rejected; Why Won’t Dems Act Like It?”
Newman argued that Trump was always going to fail on immigration, and Democrats, too cowed to speak up in March 2025, now have an opportunity to do so with voter winds in their sails.
“Democratic elites should join the grassroots in fighting the real adversary—the brutal, violent, white-nationalist deportation campaign now tearing this country apart. They should get out of their conference rooms and Zoom calls and hit the streets with us,” he wrote.
NON-BREAKING NEWS: The War in Iran continues. Only thing for certain is that Trump’s pronouncements from last week enabled him, his family, and his criminal cronies to do some lucrative trading on Wall Street. Which was the point:
