Song of the Day 11/30: Stevie Wonder, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on November 30, 2022

By request of Mediawatch, in honor of El Somnambulo’s dive into New Castle County Council’s developer-funded political machine.

Stevie Wonder had Top 10 hits throughout the ’60s, but this 1970 soul burner marked his first foray into producing his own material and one of his last singles while under contract to Motown.

The Funk Brothers gave him plenty to work with — Paul Riser’s punchy arrangement opens with guitarist Eddie Willis on electric sitar. Wonder wrote the tune with Motown lyricist Syreeta Wright shortly before he married her; they divorced two years later.

Scores of artists have covered the song, but only Peter Frampton returned it to the US charts. His version topped out at No. 13 in 1977.

Loved singing this one, suits my voice and high range. Sang several others and loved them all.
