If you were wondering what kind of coverage the News Journal would give the race for governor, today’s paper is discouraging. They’ve got a story touting – I kid you not – her endorsement by a bunch of lieutenant governors of other states. Nowhere in the article does it point out that these people know fuck-all about Delaware and are unqualified to endorse anyone, or that a lamer less impressive endorsement would be difficult to imagine. Stack that up against the newspaper’s complete disinterest in pursuing her financial shenanigans and I think it’s safe to say that the News Journal has no interest in upsetting the Delaware Way apple cart.

You always knew that the National Enquirer just made up stories out of whole cloth, but it’s nice to have it confirmed in testimony from former company head David Pecker, who said he promised Trump fixer Michael Cohen that he’d do hit pieces on Trump’s GOP rivals during the 2016 primary season. That means – brace for the shock – Ted Cruz’s father had nothing to do with JFK’s assassination.

One of the big drivers of inflation in America is the rising cost of rent. Thom Hartmann looks at the statistical link between rent and homelessness. Forget fascism – read between the lines and you can make out the return of feudalism.

Trump on Trial is on hiatus today. Lord knows what the media will fill their space and time with in the interregnum.

The floor’s yours.

Who cares. It’s funny that a campaign whose primary argument to supporters is “people don’t read the news” and “they’ll forget the campaign finance issues”, sends press releases. It’s also funny that the news journal and other outlets will publish them despite hall long refusing to talk to the press. John carney too refuses to talk to the press about Bethany’s issues. I hope some press shows up to this event and asks them some questions.

Nothing says a strong campaign like one that has to do two kickoffs. They didn’t even try and change the name of it to something else. Just an embarrassing group of idiots all around.

    • Alby says:

I’m more focused on the lack of initiative from the newspaper than what effect it might have on the campaign. TNJ’s failure to engage with a clearly newsworthy issue is a story in itself.

The “No” voters on the Appo school tax increase worked hard in social media to make this vote partisan. …and got trounced. Good news for below the canal Dems.

yes and the enquirer also killed stories about trump it would have immediately bought. but they did buy them and billed trump for it. kinda sounds like fraud to me.

the interesting thing about this governors race is its actually interesting and not a foregone conclusion like normal.

another huge inflation figure is car insurance. a 22% jump year over year

  4. puck says:

“car insurance. a 22% jump year over year”

Progressive CEO Tricia Griffith, during a fourth-quarter earnings conference call. “We feel like we’re in a really great position now.”

Time for a windfall tax. Raising taxes on the rich is an optimal way to slow inflation, but that tool is not politically available to us right now.

Nice timing by BHL for her event. Few members of the local media work on Saturday morning. Now that the NJ has announced her announcement, it may not feel the need to cover it live — and, if they did, chances are we wouldn’t see it in print until Monday, or later.
So, BHL will get her groupies out for the event, she probably won’t face any questions on her finances and then she’ll complain that the media is ignoring her.
P.S. — Mini-kudo to Amanda Fries for labeling BHL as a “bureaucrat” and for accurately eschewing the use of “leader” or “leadership” anywhere in the article.

What about the sh— show over at the county finally the truth is coming out about County Executive Matt Meyers mismanaged and mishandled county funding! Some of the truth is coming out via the recently released audit! He is a laughing joke, just like Matt’s email today which states “New Castle County is model for our state” with those audit findings he is eating that mass email like sour milk! Worse is the long list of items he is taking credit for along with the rest of his administration. Shame on you! Your so confused Matt you don’t who you are, what your doing or who your doing!!!!

    • Alby says:

Would be much more persuasive with a link or two.

      • curious says:

“Your so confused Matt you don’t who you are, what your doing or who your doing!!!!”

here is the tell of a real BHL supporter. A funny, petty, immature, and hateful little bunch of losers and idiots.

But yes. Let’s talk about audits and about who “people really are” and “what they’re doing”. Is Bethany ready for that conversation? Is her family?

        • Alby says:

I don’t see anything there to support your allegations. Meyer wasn’t running the Hope Center, and the link to a 2016 article bitching about a business Meyer had making sandals in Kenya doesn’t do anything to support your hyperventilating.

Gonna have to do better than that to make a dent.

          • Bar Highly says:

Your focus solely on BHL’s campaign finance matters disregards other crucial aspects. Research clearly shows that she personally incurred campaign expenses that were documented in the campaign reports in their respective years, yet they were not labeled as loans. I don’t believe there is a smoking gun with her finance reports however why aren’t we focusing on her positions!

It is concerning to support someone like Matt who has been dishonest since the beginning of their political career.
Can the same be said of BHL? If her husband’s poor accounting skills are on trial here so be it, why is she?

Do you conduct thorough research? Is this platform the only place where your voices are heard? The overwhelming attention on BHL and MM’s campaigns may inadvertently highlight Colin as the most suitable candidate for Governor. It appears that some individuals supporting BHL and MM are older white men who may be hypocritical in their attempts to stay relevant. Sound familiar?

I’m a 40 yr resident of Delaware and I’ve never seen leadership in DE from the very top down that has not been held to any accountability measures! Don’t you all talk about that regularly here in your chats?

I am here to present information that should matter to you all. Don’t disregard or just pass over relevant info this is our state! We need change, big change. Are you going to be the change we need?

            • OK, you’re halfway out the door. We’ve chronicled BHL’s lack of any kind of record as LG. Should she be judged by John Carney’s record as the Worst Delaware Governor in Recent History? Should she be judged by the failures at DHSS since her supposed area of expertise is in healthcare?

Plus, she COULD presumably answer questions about her campaign finances, but has consistently CHOSEN NOT TO. She could reveal the so-called audit, but has CHOSEN NOT TO.

Not to mention, your assertions w/o evidence expose you. As in:

“It is concerning to support someone like Matt who has been dishonest since the beginning of their political career.”

What has BHL accomplished other than cutting ribbons the last eight years?

Bottom line is this: Both Carney and BHL, who are once again running as a team, are running to protect the casual corruption of the Delaware Way.

Which is why the lowlifes are racing to support them.

Oh, one more thing: HAVE YOU NOT READ THIS FUCKING BLOG FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS?? Holding public officials accountable pretty much defines our mission.

  7. Here’s the deal: You get to spread shit the minute that BHL releases the so-called audit of her campaign finances.

She’s been hiding out from everyone on them.

We’re back to where we were almost six months ago–BHL won’t come clean, and her trolls are spreading shit about her opponents.

You’ve had your chance. Come clean on her campaign finances, or you’re gone.

Clifton, Allen and Parsons (CLAconnect.com just presented a report to NCC involving the management of the Hope Center. I’m not sure how to add a pic of the report or I would post it now. In numerous spots in the report… ” 2023 – 001 Hope Center Internal Controls & Year-end Financial Close and Reporting Type of Finding: Significant Deficiency in Internal Control over Financial Reporting”. ” 2023 – 002 Reporting – Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) Type of Finding: Significant Deficiency in Internal Control over Financial Reporting”.” 2023 – 003 Federal Agency: U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development Federal Program: Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Cluster Assistance Listing Number: 14.871 Award Period: July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023 Compliance Requirement: Reporting – FDS Reporting Type of Finding: Significant Deficiency in Internal Control Over Compliance, Noncompliance”. “The County did not have the appropriate controls over the financial reporting process to prevent or detect misstatements”
Those are some of the many parts of the report noting significant and material weakness and compliance. The report also notes the report was reviewed by auditors with the NCC hierarchy and that the NCC heads had “no disagreement with the audit findings” and “Management agrees with the finding” at every place in the report where a problem was found.
My biggest issue was that it was noted during testimony in a NCC Council meeting by dept heads. Only after questioning of the existence of the report by the council persons did it pop up. When those council people dug further, it was noted that Council was supposed to be notified by the Meyers administration of the issues as noted in the report. They were too busy trying to bury it during an election year. Ironic that the letterhead used for the acceptance of the findings has “Honesty*Transparentcy*Efficientcy” on the bottom of the Finance Dept letterhead. The persons notified were Matt Meyer and Michael Smith CFO and noted the problems back to 2022. Easy enough to FOIA the report instead of questioning the post.
