El Stupido !

Filed in National by on March 20, 2007

Cubans in Miami are steaming mad at former Gov. Mitt Romney for shooting his mouth off in stumbling Spanish, mispronouncing names and erroneously associating a notorious Fidel Castro-spewed Communist catch phrase with freedom fighters.

Do we really need another clueless rich guy who pretends to be a spanish speaker?

I think not.

At least Romney can pronounce English. But no matter how you pronounce it, “tax cuts for the rich” still sounds like a disaster.

  2. This was definitely a blunder.

  3. anon says:

I’m sure Mitt will recover. And with practice, he will be able to correctly pronounce his Communist slogans.

  4. Hube says:

Sorry, but Bush’s Spanish is excellent. It’s grammatically accurate, though his accent ain’t all that great. His Spanish is probably better than his English! So, while you have a point about Romney, you once again prove your doltishness by attempting to tie Bush to it.

  5. Hube says:

Oh, and it would be “El Estúpido,” not “Stupido,” estúpido. Note the accent, too.

  6. Doctor Nick is desperate to tie Romney to Bush. There’s nothing to really nail Romney on, so that’s their best shot.

  7. anon says:

All the Republicans are tied to Bush. Name one policy area where any of the GOP front runners differ from Bush. On the top tier of issues (Iraq, tax cuts for the rich, no government sponsored health care) they are all the same.

The Republican candidates have a sucky choice: 1) Move to the center and run against the policies of their own sitting President, or 2) Fall in behind Bush and offer “more of the same.”

  8. Dr. Nick says:

Feh. Romney is doing a bang-up job on his own with his calls to stay the course.

As for me, I’d like to tie Romney to Bush, but that would require me to break my parole.

  9. Hube says:

anon: That may be — with the exception of speaking “bad” Spanish!

  10. “On the top tier of issues (Iraq, tax cuts for the rich, no government sponsored health care) they are all the same.”

Romney solved the health-care crisis without government sponsorship. Check.

By the way, Bush cut taxes for every taxpayer. You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own set of facts.

At some point you’ll have to face the fact that everything Romney’s ever touched has ended up better off. Bain Capital, Staples, Domino’s, the Olympics and Massachusetts. As soon as voters come to grips with the fact that this guy’s a grade-A fixer at a time when we need fixing, he’ll leave the rest of the field in the dust.

    Jury’s still out on that.

    without government sponsorship.

No, there is a taxpayer funded component to Romney’s plan.

Bush cut taxes for every taxpayer.

Right. Bush slashed taxes on stock dividends and capital gains for rich and poor alike.

  12. “Jury’s still out on that.”

Everyone in Mass has private health care coverage. And the bill for the state is less than it was before. Every state is going to have some sort of government funding through Medicaid. The difference between Romney’s plan and Hillary’s plan is that the state doesn’t collect a pile of taxes and turn around and pay for everyone’s health care. Romney solved it for Massachusetts.

Bush cut tax rates for everyone who pays taxes. You can’t change that fact. You also can’t deny the robust economic growth and tax revenues that resulted.

    Oh God, help me!

I suppose we can agree that Bush put the “bust” back in robust. Beyond that please don’t try and tell me that the economy is good.

  14. anon says:

Romney’s health care plan is brand new, and we don’t yet know the health outcomes for people.

And it’s too early to start learning the stories of MA residents who were penalized by the state for not having health insurance (“Show me your papers, please!”) I’m sure Romney doesn’t want to crack down on that until after 2008.

Sure MA is paying less because they pushed 20% of their hard-core uninsured onto Medicare. Which is fine, but you have to acknowledge that Romney federalized his problem. You cannot give Romney credit for success without also crediting the Medicare program (“socialized medicine”).

  15. “Sure MA is paying less because they pushed 20% of their hard-core uninsured onto Medicare. Which is fine, but you have to acknowledge that Romney federalized his problem.”

No, not really. First, it’s Medicaid. And the state is paying out LESS under Romney’s plan with LESS employees than it was before. And no, I won’t credit socialized medicine, because Mass most likely could have done more with that money to cover people than the government does with medicaid.

“I’m sure Romney doesn’t want to crack down on that until after 2008.”

Romney won’t be “cracking down” on anything. He’s no longer the Governor of Massachusetts.

Before we go further you might want to brush up on the details.

  16. anon says:

    First, it’s Medicaid.

My argument is still better even WITH typos.

    Facts are stupid things.

  17. “Facts are stupid things.”

    You clearly think so.
