It’s Sunday why the Hell aren’t you in church?

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – The Roman Catholic Church has effectively buried the concept of limbo, the place where centuries of tradition and teaching held that babies who die without baptism went.

A person much smarter than me sent this to me with this comment:

“So for 1800 years, some place was collecting these babies and then, BLAM! – they all disappear and show up somewhere else.

Did the Vicar of Christ press the Easy Button to start the process?

Why can’t we have that technology? I’m here and then, BLAM!; I’m in Amsterdam! Awesome!!!”

And people wonder why I’m an atheist. Everyone who claims to talk to God is full of, well you know.

Do you know why Catholic priests aren’t allowed to marry? Because way back when the church was scared that priests would leave church property to their wives and children. It’s always the greed thing with these people.

But I agree with wanting Scottie to beam me up or over or wherever. That’s the best idea Roddenberry ever had.

  2. I wonder what Paul Smith has to say about this?

And yet Catholics still consider themselves part of the Church, even when they don’t show up. I think, in Delaware at least, Catholics are disgusted by the conservative wing of the Church, their support of Bush, and the newfound Church political meddling. And of course there are still wounds from the pedophilia scandal. There is no strong Catholic tradition, and therefore no acceptable methods, for the laity to criticize or demand reform from Church leadership. Therefore they are simply backing away in silence and voting with their feet. I don’t think Catholics are abandoning their Catholic identity just yet, but they are simply hoping and waiting for sanity to return to their Church. Make no mistake, O’Donnell is not representative of Delaware Catholics.

And people wonder why [many] atheists are so typically full of pompous, “I’m superior-to-you” bullshit. I despise organized religion, but individual people can sure claim to talk to God in their prayers — they just don’t need “church” approval. Science and religion also aren’t mutually exclusive, so your attitude is no better than that of the hyper-religious.

    Speaking of religion:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — Gunmen in northern Iraq stopped a bus filled with Christians and members of a tiny Kurdish religious sect, separating out the groups and taking 23 of the passengers away to be shot.

Just a bunch of dead enders no doubt. Nothing to worry about. We’ll see some results in the next six months..or the next months after that, or after that.

Wasn’t it just last week that you lefties were celebrating the fact that Pope Benedict came out against the Iraq War?

Anyway, I’m pretty sure Limbo was never an official doctrine, didn’t it come from St Augustine and/or Dante?

Now, if we can get a fatwa issued that renounces the 72 virgins for suicide bombers, we might get some progress. Not holding my breath here…

  7. donviti says:

    G Rex,

that was my post about the pope. I wasn’t celebrating anything, just pointing out the hypocrisy of this country that catholics and citizens in general pick and choose what they want to hear…

  8. G Rex says:

Fair enough, DV. There are plenty of Catholics who go right along with the Church until they come to the part where it says you can’t use birth control or have abortions. We call them Episcopalians. You can always pick them out at my church, ‘coz they’re the ones crossing themselves all the time.
