The federal government will likely put up $5.7 million for more than 360 acres of southern New Castle County farmland, forest and freshwater wetlands -— land that won’t be developed in the fast-growing area, state and congressional officials announced today.

The land will sell for $3.24 million. The remainder of the federal funds — assuming the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration awards Delaware the grants, as expected —would go towards purchasing a nearby parcel of 200 acres.
