Around the Horn Friday: Dave Burris’ Huge Head Edition

Filed in Uncategorized by on July 6, 2007

At the end of March, I had to praise Dave Burris for his well placed call-to-arms to force Atkins resignation. I only recently started feeling clean again. But in my ATHF that week, I had to call for an end of the praise. It is that time again.

Dave (along with a good deal of help from Dana) proved to be the crucial lobbyist for good at Leg hall on Saturday. Way to go, Dave. I particularly liked the way that you explained to Celia that you are a blogger and a chairman. Nice work. But I am officially done with the praise. After this post, I’m going to have to shower. A lot… With soap…

Also active in the defeat if HB177 were the voices of Nancy Willing and Mike Matthews. Nancy has a nice wrap-up. Mike is going to do something about it. Joe at Merit Bound Alley also has a nice blow-by-blow of how the day went.

Our old friend HB4 is still getting some air time over at Merit Bound Alley and also at its normal home, FSP

Elsewhere, we seem to have stirred up some blog-echoes with our post on why George Bush is like Chicken Little (but dumber). Hube took umbrage because he loves being scared of everything. Duffy joined in on the chorus. In the words of a great moron, “Bring it on!” In one of the few posts that Paul Smith has written that didn’t make me want to gouge my eyes out, he covers the newest terror threat. Hube is shaking in his jack boots.

I love that JttR and Tommywonk both posted the Declaration of Independence. Kavips chooses a specific passage to ponder.

Kilroy used the 4th of July to call for a state sales tax to pay for schools. There are better ways to have the State foot the bill, Kilroy, if that is your goal.

The Libby commutation also stirred up some commentary from…well..everyone. Hube Felix had some. Tommywonk bettered him. Kavips make the obvious comparison between Scooter and Paris

On the lighter side, Mike Mahaffie has a blog that we should all visit, if for no other reason than to make the guy be careful what he wishes for.

KarmicJay regales us with a review of the TheatreN experience. Oh, and there was a movie also.

If the movie theatre isn’t your bag, Tommywonk suggests the Arden Music Festival this weekend.

At the soapbox, Mat has unearthed some of Protack’s greatest hits.

At the end of the day today, I am on vacation. It is never clear to me whether that will mean more or less posts, but I’ll feel less guilty either way… There have been 3,592 American soldiers killed in the boondoggle that is Iraq, and the families of 66,807 Iraqi civilians blame our attack for their loved one’s death.

  1. Hube says:

The Libby commutation post at Colossus was by Felix, not me. (An understandable oversight — this time — since he hadn’t posted in a while.) Please correct that, if you will.

  2. liberalgeek says:

Will do. I missed that in the rss reader I used. Sorry for the oversight.

  3. Observer says:

Burris is way overrated, a big windbag.

Amazing how he brings about the downfall of a republican legislator but gets a pass?
Is he related to Copeland??? You know the guy who primaried a Republican incumbent, trashed him in print and now wants unity?

  4. liberalgeek says:

Damn you, Observer! I am trying to end my Dave Burris lovefest and you are drawing me out to defend him again.

What Dave did to Atkins was the right thing to do. I would prefer that the bold leadership in this state were a Democratic official. But if there is to be hope for this state, we will need people that are doing the right thing, no matter their party affiliation. Dave was just able to do it within his party.

Great, now we will have to grease Dave’s temples just to get his head through the door. I’m really done with the lovefest now…

  5. No, geek. You’re wrong.

Burris is bad! He is pure evil! He is trying to ruin the world! He must be stopped!

    Your friend,

    PFS
