Wow, I’m almost speechless

This is a new one for me.  We have a new political group amidst us.  The up and coming Progressive Conservatives!  That’s right readers.  Follow me along as I show you how I came to this amazing discovery.  I must admit, this discovery is even more amazing than learning how some people interpret the bible literally.  2 days ago a commenter was kind enough to say this in regards to the ISG members:

Please recognize that the Iraq Study Group’s youngest member was older than Castle.
Although they deserve our respect, their viewpoints mean nothing to me.

Now me being the sharp mind that I am thought this interesting because knowing this reader is a conservative I thought this blatant disregard for octogenarians (sp? hube) flies in the face of conservatism respect for an olders persons point of view and perspective.  So I asked the reader to make sure I wasn’t wrong in my assumption of him being a conservative.  I can now admit that I was wrong.

I’m not bitching about older people, I have great respect for them, but I don’t defer to them.People with recent experiences , training and education are best utilized to deal with today’s complex issues.I am a conservative and proud of it. I am also progressive. The two can and do mix well.

There you have it the Progressive Conservative?  Sort of like a platypus I guess, no matter how many times you see one, you still scratch your head and ask, “What the fuck is that thing?

    You are so simple.

Scholar R.J. White once put it this way:
“To put conservatism in a bottle with a label is like trying to liquefy the atmosphere … The difficulty arises from the nature of the thing. For conservatism is less a political doctrine than a habit of mind, a mode of feeling, a way of living.”

I happen to believe that progressive initiatives can be be implemented to return to a “simpler way of life”. I don’t think I’m alone in reminiscing about taking a bike ride with friends as opposed to keeping my kids locked up all day for fear of some predators or working a full day and seeing my family as opposed to “squeezing them in” between my job(s), etc.

Lastly, FYI, there was a progressive era in the late 1890’s through the 1920’s. It was led by both Republicans and Demmocrats, most notably Republicans Theodore Roosevelt and Robert LaFollette and Democrats William Jennings Bryan and Woodrow Wilson.

    heck of a scholar

isn’t calling someone a conservative a label? or am I being to literal?

In my view the later, but it’s just a sign of the times. All politics, all the time.

I’m not sure we should look at things that way in order to make progress as a nation in rehabing our image worldwide.

    Good points, J.

I was thinking of the same era (1890s+) as a template for today’s Progressive Conservatives.

If we just could get bogus “Family Values” issues (which is simply Theocracy-light) out of the political discourse and promote the citizenry over the corporate bottom-line, many people on both sides of the aisle will find much more common ground.

  5. J says:

    Agree.

Which sort of goes back to my original point which was based on those of us actually in the workforce recommending changes and not those that have been out of it.

Piece of cake. Would you like your liquid atmosphere products delivered by pipeline, by truck, or by some other bulk carrier?

OK but you will have to fight the conservative “pro-business” developers who want to keep building sprawl and limited-access highways.

and seeing my family as opposed to “squeezing them in” between my job(s), etc.

Welcome to the conservative pro-business cheap-labor economy.

f we just could get bogus “Family Values” issues (which is simply Theocracy-light) out of the political discourse

Well, the Theocracy-lite is what gave the Republicans a majority. Without it they will revert to their natural electoral minority.

and promote the citizenry over the corporate bottom-line

Of course… but if you do, you will have to do it WITHOUT CASH, while avoiding the most desparate attacks from the corporate bottom-liners.

    Well, I think it’s a battle worth fighting…

If today’s conservatives are willing to risk the extinction of natural habitats and wildlife, along with increasing the health risks to the populace, in the name of economic development, then they shouldn’t complain about the possible elimination of certain businesses as an effect of populist legislation.
