Celia Cohen sucks. It is that simple.
This is a guest post by Disbelief
Celia says, “… Insurance Commissioner Matthew P. Denn… has spent his tenure casting himself as David against the Goliath insurance industry.”
I’m used to blog snark, but what the hell is this? Denn came into the office of Insurance Commissioner after that office had been vacant for twenty years. He fought ‘slow-pay/no-pay’ insurance companies, credit scoring, and unsupported workman’s comp rate increases among other things. Basically, he is one guy with a good assistant literally working a 14-hour day against an industry that spends more in lobbying in a year than Denn will see in his lifetime.
And Celia compares Blount’s insurance regulatory experience to what Denn has done? Why? Well, according to Celia, because Blount was sick twice.
I used to think Jason went a little overboard on Celia; not no more, dudes and dudettes.

Dis is right about me being right. Celia is horrible, and Matt Denn does not cast himself as anything other than a guy who works his ass off.
In Celia’s F’ed up world that means he is workign some kind of angle.
Pathetic.
What do you expect her to say, that Ted Blunt is an empty suit who doesn’t have a chance in hell of cracking 20% in a primary? Celia’s gig isn’t based on knowledge or analysis, only access. She’s exactly what’s wrong with MSM, only smaller.
She’s exactly what’s wrong with MSM, only smaller.
Smaller in sooooo many ways.
Celia’s gig is that she speaks from an insider point of view. She views elections as “ordeals” that must be endured. So I wondered, from that perspective, how much insider support Blunt has vs. Denn. Is Denn still viewed as an outsider?
Mmmmm…
why did you let me ramble on spelling it “Blount”?
See if I ever say, “Hey Jason, someone just put a cigarette out in that beer.”
Try “none.” Exactly how would a former counsel for the governor be viewed as an “outsider”?
Atkins is a former legislator. Is he an ‘insider’ or ‘outsider’?
Outsider is your mentality when it comes to the system not your position. I am not a fan of Matt Denn. He has done a lousy job ensuring the people of this state have the best and most up to date products to serve their needs. For the last 20 years Delaware was a model of efficiency and reason. Not anymore.
I don’t think we need more of Denn.
Cohen rules.
Just had dinner with Ted Blunt. He’s one heck of a nice guy, but you would expect that from a seasoned politician such as he. He’s better than average bright and has some ideas. The thing is, Matt Denn is way, way better than average bright and has tons of ideas.
Blunt and Carney would be head of the class in an average election year. But 2008 isn’t an average election year. We’ve got the A++++++ team available to Delaware next year in Markell and Denn. It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along often in Delaware and I hope we’ll take advantage of it.
David…since when were conservatives or Republicans consumer advocates? When has that ever been the case throughout our entire history?
I will answer that question. Never. Republicans represent the corporations, not the consumers. They represent the insurance companies, not the insureds. They care not for consumer safety or consumer interests, but rather for the utmost profit and success of their patrons.
So it surprises me not that you are no fan of Matt Denn. It does surprise me that you would pretend that consumer advocacy would be an interest of yours, however.
“For the last 20 years Delaware was a model of efficiency and reason.”
Please tell me you make these fantastic claims only because you’ve fallen & hit your head. Denn was far superior to that Insurance company thing he replaced. I don’t know how anyone could possibly dispute that.
2008 has the potential to be a year of infinite debate and hopefully a new direction for Delaware-it is long over due.
For many years we have been like the frog in the gradually warming pail of water who slowly dies because he gets used the temperature and doesn’t do anything to change his circumstances.
On one issue alone-health care I think we can redefine our state. We have a private universal plan which has gotten good reviews.
On the wide spectrun of issues-let’s go at it for a change. Stop treating voting like a visit to the in laws. You know, you dread going but you know you have to or else.
Have a great day.
Anderson. Burris might be a bit partisan, but please email him and ask if you’re too far out on a limb about Denn. If Burris doesn’t answer “Dave, I think you’re wrong on this one.”, I’ll be amazed.
The cliche about the frog has been disproven. Frogs have enough sense to jump out of a hot pan of water, even if the temperature rises gradually.
I say what I believe. Denn was a disaster.
