Mike Castle Running as a Faux Democrat

This shit is so transparent it is laughable.

Castle, Pelosi, Lewis, Snyder Commemorate 50th Anniversary of Little Rock Nine

— December 7, 2007 Washington, D.C. Delaware Congressman Mike Castle joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressmen John Lewis and Vic Snyder to recognize the desegregation of the Little Rock Central High School. The Little Rock Nine was a group of African-American students who were enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957.

Three democrats. I wonder when Castle is going to start hanging around with Michael Moore or Barbara Streisand?

“The Little Rock Nine was a group of African-American students who were enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957.”

…with the help of the National Guard troops called in by the Republcian President to overrule the Democratic Governor of Arkansas.

So Castle’s just celebrating the heroic intervention of a Republican President on behalf of the civil rights movement.

  2. disbelief says:

Dwight and Mamie; the last good Republicans.

  3. cassandra m says:

And if General Eisenhower were running for President as a Republican today, he would be considered a faux-repub by what passes for leadership by the current, wingnut-heavy repub party.

Could you even imagine BushCo intervening to make sure black kids could go to school? He would just tell them to organize their own charter school and let the free market get them to full citizenship rights.

  4. jason330 says:

    Dave,

If yours was a proper wingnut blog and not a partisan toady blog you’d be all over Castle’s shit.

  5. jason330 says:

    …and….What Cassandra said.

  6. Von Cracker says:

Dave, how many times do we have to go through this?

The civil rights movement and the ACT of ’64 turned Southern dixiecrats into southern republicans – thurmond, helms…etc.

The label may be the same, but cetainly not the contents…..

  7. Dave says:

    Blah, blah, blah….

And cassandra, Truman and JFK would suffer the same fate at the hands of today’s Dems.

  8. cassandra m says:

Well, no, they wouldn’t. Neither of them are of the Kucinich stripe, and while both were in practice pragmatists they both had progressive ideas. It was Truman who desegregated the armed forces and made some effort on civil rights in spite of what the Southern block of his party wanted. And certainly the current crop of Democrats would be delighted to avoid WWIII by aggressive diplomacy and NOT by a pre-emptive strike.

    In your face Burris!

sean hannity arguement at it’s best

  12. Dave says:

    In who’s what?

Kennedy wanted to massively cut taxes and presided over the beginning of Vietnam, and Truman dropped the bomb and threatened to seize control of the railways and draft workers into the military for striking.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but come on.

  13. Al Mascitti says:

Dave, your point is pointless ad hominem bullcrap. If you want to defend Castle’s attendance, OK. But your misunderstanding of what party labels people wore during the Civil Rights makes you look like a fool.

Why not simply explain it as Castle representing Delaware’s dog in that fight? The Delaware case was folded into the Little Rock case so the Supremes could rule on it once and only once.

  14. jason330 says:

Castle, Jeb Bush, John Boehner, and (insert name of any republican) Commemorate (insert any event)

    Dave,
Let us know when you see that headline anywhere.
