As I educated myself, FINALLY, on the Iowa caucus, all I could think about is what a #$%ing joke it is. I’d like to caucus on punching this process in its freaking mouth. Let them have their tradition, just make them irrelevant in the process (until they go primary).

  2. Fred says:

    go obama

  3. R Smitty says:

Fred Thompson? Sheesh, anything to latch on to a winner. The shame. 🙂

  4. liberalgeek says:

I am watching the dem caucus on CSPAN. It is certainly interesting to watch…for watching people count…

  5. liberalgeek says:

    NBC calls Huckabee the winner.

  6. liberalgeek says:

On MSNBC Chris Matthews just called Bush uncurious. He also said that if this holds up, Romney goes into NH as a loser. Ouch.

  7. George says:

I’m surprised Huck received as high a percentage as he did.

  8. liberalgeek says:

MSNBC has some really wonky stats. Obama is killing in the youth vote.

  9. liberalgeek says:

MSNBC is beating the hell out of Romney. “Romney was rejected.”

His statement that Iowa is the first inning of a 50 inning game shows how desperate Romney is…

Romney may have to cast himself as the non-Huckabee…

  10. liberalgeek says:

Romney was very weak. McCain may challenge in N.C. Could McCain win the nomination if he is the non-Huck?

  11. donviti says:

$10 to anyone that watches Fox News for 30 minutes….

  12. liberalgeek says:

Romney is starting to look like Steve Forbes. Ouch. The Evangelicals are still in control of the Republicans. Obama is now in the lead.

  13. liberalgeek says:

does the volume have to be on?

  14. jason330 says:

Romney was very weak. McCain may challenge in N.C. Could McCain win the nomination if he is the non-Huck?

McCain is exploding on the trading floor. The bettors pushed him up to first over the past few days.

As I recall McCain gets crushed in the head to head polls vs. any dem.

  15. George says:

    Huckabee is scary as shit…

I love Matthews and Olbermann though.

  16. liberalgeek says:

    McCain concedes.

  17. jason330 says:

I missed about a week of this Iowa spin chit chat , but let me guess one thing.

Clinton wins even if she loses because she beat expectations AND Edwards loses even if he wins because he did not meet expectations.

    Do I have that right?

  18. liberalgeek says:

Ouch. McCain says “you can’t buy an election in Iowa.”

  19. liberalgeek says:

No. If Hill loses, she loses. If anyone wins, they show that she can be beaten.

  20. liberalgeek says:

Obama called the winner by MSNBC.

  21. John Feroce says:

DV – you owe me $10

  22. john kowalko says:

Pat (bible thumper) Robertson also won in Iowa, (the media’s measure of America) Hopefully America will reject this primitive mindset again.
    John

  23. jason330 says:

I can’t wait for “What Romney spent per vote” stories.

Hey Mitt, I’ll vote for you for $125,000 call me!

  24. jason330 says:

When you just glimpse Rudy’s slogan it reads:

    Testy, Ready, Now.

  25. liberalgeek says:

Now Matthews is unloading on Huck while talking to Rudy.

  26. donviti says:

have your kid come beat me up for it 🙂

  27. anon says:

Edwards vs. Hillary for second place is actually quite a cliffhanger:

    http://www.iowacaucusresults.com/

  28. donviti says:

Ed Rollins was getting into it with Mike Wallace on Fox pretty funny

  29. donviti says:

fox news has some really odd looking people

  30. jason330 says:

Speaking of “terror” did you hear Romney raising the “militant gays” alarm? Everything is couched in war talk with these guys.

  31. john kowalko says:

My daughter has corrected me. Apparently he was a surprise second. I was using my “fishes and loaves” calculator

  32. donviti says:

apparently the Republicans are the big story on fox news tonight. Go figure

  33. liberalgeek says:

MSNBC has odd looking people too… Oh wait, that’s just Rudy.

  34. donviti says:

Dorian Gray is your Neighbor John….

  35. donviti says:

    good one Lib

  36. liberalgeek says:

truthfully, this is cutting into my around the horn writing… Damn.

  37. jason330 says:

CSPAN is making me think back to my “Fuck Iowa and Fuck Iowans” Post.

  38. liberalgeek says:

Wow 4 delegates seperate Hill and Edwards…

  39. donviti says:

Bill Kristol said that Obama beating hillary Clinton is HUGE. Unfortunately he also said that Iraq had WMD’s too.

  40. liberalgeek says:

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It is way more exciting listening to the talking heads than seeing how the sausage is made.

  41. George says:

    I haven’t even tuned into FNC….

haha Joe Trippi is talking to Matthews…. wow, talk about “not camera ready”

    Yuck

  42. donviti says:

Clinton Bashing going heavy on Fox. Making fun of her Christmas Commerical

  43. George says:

That commercial was lame though… seriously.

  44. liberalgeek says:

Wife comments that she always thinks about Edwards’ wife whenever they talk about Edwards. I wonder if that is a woman thing or a social worker thing…

  45. George says:

David Gregory said, at least at his polling place, Biden’s people were falling in line behind Obama….

Papa Joe sees the State Department gravy train with Obama now I guess

  46. jason330 says:

    Biden…Richardson…?

Ron Paul…? Anything ….tap, tap, tap,…is this thing on?

  47. George says:

Oh shit, they’ve dusted off Brokaw…

  48. donviti says:

    Hey Celebrity Apprentice is on….

  49. jason330 says:

    Romney and Clinton Repudiated?

  50. donviti says:

ron Paul voters don’t wake up until around 10pm

  51. liberalgeek says:

    Romney=damaged goods. Yikes.

  52. George says:

Aww, it’s so cute… Kristol is pretending to know what black people think… as if he’s ever met one .

  53. donviti says:

    wait a god damned minute!

    Obamma is Black?!

  54. jason330 says:

Fred Barnes is such a douche bag.

  55. John Feroce says:

“have your kid come beat me up for it :)”

If I send him down he’ll come back with $20…stereotypical EYE-talian

  56. donviti says:

Whenever they introduce Andrea Mitchell they should say “Wife of Republican Alan Greenspan” shouldn’t they?

  57. jason330 says:

Funny how Fox keeps cutting to Juan Williams fior a reaction shot whenever anyone says “african americans”

  58. liberalgeek says:

    Dean on MSNBC…

  59. donviti says:

    WOOOOAHHHHHH

howard dean! WTF happened to this guy?

    plastic surgery?

  60. John Feroce says:

    “wait a god damned minute!

    Obamma is Black?!”

Since nobody else has the balls to say it, I will. Why is he considered black and not white?

  61. liberalgeek says:

H.D. has lost some serious weight and appears to have been campaigning in FL. Clinton drops to 3rd.

  62. donviti says:

that’s not balls Giovanni, as an eyetalian you don’t called a kid half white EVER do you?

    good attempt though

  63. liberalgeek says:

    JF, I blame republicans. 🙂

Actually, read his first book and you will know the answer.

  64. donviti says:

    he looks like Wesley Clark

  65. jason330 says:

  68. donviti says:

    Don’t forget CNN..

    Cafferty is rocking on Hillary

  69. liberalgeek says:

My wife has caucused and I am the winner of the geekiest person in the house.

  70. donviti says:

    Screw CNN they take commercials…douches

  71. George says:

Megyn Kelly has a nice mouth…

  72. jason330 says:

The Obama camopaign needs to get someone other than David Avelrod on TV.

  73. donviti says:

    I love that Huckabee won!

  74. George says:

Axelrod has the bushiest, most triumphant bastard of a mustache though

  75. liberalgeek says:

David Axelrod seems actually unprepared… Not ready for tough questions…

  76. John Feroce says:

“Actually, read his first book and you will know the answer.”

ok…I’ll take your word that he explains it. I hope it’s a good reason; both parents should get treated equally.

    They’re depressed.

  78. jason330 says:

Big story being teased for tomorrow’s “today show”:

Little girl lied about her father being killed in Iraq to get Hanna Montana tickets.

  79. donviti says:

“The Anti Hillary Vote” Fox news loves it!

  80. donviti says:

in related news Hanna Montana’s PR people love publicity

  81. donviti says:

    I can’t watch Hannity.

I have to go to bed

  82. John Feroce says:

Those breaking it down to Hillary not having a message are right on.

More importantly Obama owns the “change” message and that’s the one you want in ’08

  83. jason330 says:

Does the close race put Delaware in play on the Dem side?

Oh crap. I forgot about Biden.

  84. liberalgeek says:

JF, I’ll sum up. White people labeled him as such. I would rather that he were just an American.

  85. George says:

Feroce knows all about the right message needed to win an election.

  86. liberalgeek says:

51% of people that want “change” go for Obama. Wow.

  87. jason330 says:

All the “i’s” are on the “D” side now. I think they’ve had it with the GOP’s bullshit.

  88. liberalgeek says:

Iowa dems 212,000 caucus-goers. I think that is 100k more than Repubs.

  89. jason330 says:

    Mitt’s negative ads backfired.

    Ha!!

  90. anon says:

I do NOT want to see Edwards using his skills to go after Obama in the next primaries, especially if Obama goes on to win the nomination.

Not that I minded Edwards going after Hillary.

  91. George says:

I’m so torn. I hate both Mitt and Huckabee so much.

    Where’s the Ron Paul Revolution?

  92. George says:

UGH Frank Luntz is such a fat piece of garbage…

  93. John Feroce says:

    George

I’m proud of my efforts. Got off of active duty on July 1st, had twin girls within three weeks , won a primary in 8 weeks and ran a positive campaign against a long serving public servant in a year having an R cost you at least 10 or 15pts.

If you recall my message it was:
    Enough is Enough (sound familiar?)

Why would you take this thread in a negative direction on a personal attack?

  94. liberalgeek says:

America would hate Huck and Mitt also.

  95. jason330 says:

BTW, according to Mathews Clinton’s are brilliant professionals.

    (In case you missed it.)

  96. liberalgeek says:

Andrea Mitchell trashed the Hillary crowd.

  97. George says:

    Edwards on the stump

  98. liberalgeek says:

Too touchy JF. Gotta be less sensitive.

  99. liberalgeek says:

Edwards is conceding. If he bails, who does he back? His wife rocks.

    Claims 2nd place.

  100. jason330 says:

I’m thinking he in not going to yell.

  101. jason330 says:

I liked him tying Clinton to the “status quo” because it is true.

  102. liberalgeek says:

JE is beating on Mitt and Hillary.

  103. liberalgeek says:

    There goes that Cigna endorsement…

  104. jason330 says:

Tom Carper’s butt cheeks just clenched.

  105. liberalgeek says:

Crap. I’m not going to get any ATHF writing done…

  106. John Feroce says:

Thanks Geek…I’m good. I’m just not letting the shots go unanswered anymore.

I came in here tonight because just like football, you had the better game on.

  107. liberalgeek says:

Roger that. It is fun, ain’t it?

  108. liberalgeek says:

Whew! Used the “scream” line, but kept it in check…

  109. anon says:

ATFH will be more fun after reading FSP tomorrow (comments are back on BTW).

  110. liberalgeek says:

Oh, here she is… Lets see how she spins it…

  111. jason330 says:

I’m beat, but have to hear this CLinton thing befor hitting the sack.

  112. liberalgeek says:

Great night for Dems. Bad one for her…

  113. liberalgeek says:

    Same here. I gotta sleep.

  114. liberalgeek says:

    Actually, she seems beat, too.

She almost seems like she is dropping out… strange tone.

  115. jason330 says:

57% of the caucus goers were new. I guess the brilliant professionals didn’t bank on that.

  116. liberalgeek says:

Actually, I’m going to wait for Obama’s victory speech. I’m gonna be tired tomorrow… and for much of the campaign season.

  117. jason330 says:

    weak.

  118. jason330 says:

Senator Clinton I mean. Not liberalgeek.

  119. liberalgeek says:

Bill wrote this… Just watch him.

  120. liberalgeek says:

Production value of MSNBC needs work.

  121. liberalgeek says:

Why does the blind guy have a clear view of Hillary and the woman next to him is blocked by Bill?

  122. liberalgeek says:

Dem attendance up 82% from 2004. wow.

  123. You guys have the pre caucus picks??

I believe my guess was right on both sides

I had Obama, Edwards and Clinton on the D side

On the R side I had Huckabee, Romney, McCain

I forgot the last two on both sides but I think I had it right?

Thanks, good night for the Democrats. A good fight has just begun.

PS- I think Bill Clinton is getting a butt whooping tonight.

  124. liberalgeek says:

His pastoral training has served him well. He speaks well. The good news is that no matter the nominees, we will have two candidates that have met the English language.

  125. liberalgeek says:

No. Hillary has been told that she isn’t Bill.

  126. anon says:

via dkos: “in 5 days, Obama will be hit with everything the Clinton machine can bring.”

  127. liberalgeek says:

Huck: Obama and I are the “Hope” nominees.

  128. Sorry, wrong site. Delaware Watch had the pre causcus picks. Still, a good night for the Democrats.

    Here was my guess.

    Protack for Governor said…

    D’s

    Obama
    Edwards
    Clinton
    Biden
    Richardson

    R’s

    Huckabee
    Romney
    McCain
    Paul
    Thompson

These places are indeed a guess but they do set the stage for an interesting two-three weeks ahead of us.

  129. liberalgeek says:

    Uh-Oh. dog-whistle time. unborn children mentioned…

  130. liberalgeek says:

His microphone guy should be shot.

  131. liberalgeek says:

Matthews: A very Jimmy Stewart speech.

  132. liberalgeek says:

Obama wins the women vote. That’s big.

  133. liberalgeek says:

HuffPo: Edwards 3rd with Union voters. That doesn’t bode well.

  134. liberalgeek says:

Obama is going on for the 11PM EST newscast. Nice. Of course, I think it means that he missed the plane to N.H. 🙂

  135. liberalgeek says:

I think they skipped Romney in favor of Huck. I guess Mitt didn’t want people to see him lose.

  136. liberalgeek says:

U2 soundtrack… Should have been “Beautiful Day”

Looks like a Kennedy pose w/ the wife and kids.

  137. liberalgeek says:

Sounds like MLK… He’s got his oratory on.

  138. liberalgeek says:

Great staccato. He has a very white cast of characters behind him. I love that.

  139. liberalgeek says:

    Healthcare.
    oil.
    end the war.
restore our standing in the world.

Good priorities. I gotta stop gushing.

  140. Tyler Nixon says:

    BREAKING : Biden drops out.

  141. George says:

Obama is so amazing. Wow. I am so taken with him

  142. liberalgeek says:

We are not red states and blue states, we are the United States.

    Biden Quits.

  143. liberalgeek says:

Good catch Tyler. Dodd is out also.

  144. liberalgeek says:

OK. I’m off to bed. I will sleep happy.

  145. cassandra m says:

You guys did an awesome job liveblogging this.

Am listening to the BBC right now reporting on the Iowa votes and they just sound relived to not be talking about BushCo.
