Matt Denn Wins First Race of the Season

Filed in National by on January 18, 2008

The first race is the race for money and supporters. Denn is claiming victory.

In 2007, the period covered by the report, Denn raised just over $200,000 in contributions from 518 individuals, businesses and groups. His campaign started 2007 with a balance of about $202,000 and spent about $26,000 during the year.

And here is the really good news. Although he is not running for re-election as Insurance Commissioner, in 2007 he has…

“maintained the pledge that from his 2004 campaign not to accept donations from insurance companies, directors or officers of insurance companies doing business in Delaware, Delaware insurance company lobbyists or Delaware insurance agents.”

  2. donviti says:

if you say his name really fast is sounds like Madden. Now there’s a name I know!

Hah, a smell new campaign slogan out of this

  3. Dana Garrett says:

Isn’t it wonderful to have an elected official like Matt Denn in office? He is one of a handful of politicians left in Delaware in which you feel certain he will never stab you in the back.

With Matt Denn what you see is what you get. And what you get with Matt Dennis is a smart, highly effective, benevolent, publicly focused and sincere elected official. It rarely, very rarely, gets better for Delawareans than Matt Denn.

  4. liz allen says:

Matt Denn should stay in the office he is in: Insurance Commissioner. His “pooling insurance” will be a disaster for Delaware.

  5. FSP says:

Matt Denn won’t take contributions from an industry that won’t come within a mile of offering them to him? Brave.

Also, Matt Denn only raised $200,000 in 2007? With all his trial lawyer buddies priming the pump?

You got the cart before the horse, Dave. They won’t give him funds because he wouldn’t work as their lackey like the last Republican did who held the office.

I’m sure that whatever Repub runs for Lt. Gov will gladly remedy Denn’s deficiency and open his hand wide for insurance company lobbyists and PACs to fill it.

  7. FSP says:

Denn’s a trial lawyer supported by trial lawyers. I imagine the insurance industry never had an intention of giving him a dime even back then.

  8. Whoever YOU want it to be says:

Matt’s the Man!!! (anyboby but Blunt, PLEASE).

  9. linkee? you have provided unsourced quotes.

  10. Denn shilled for the worst corporate whores when he was Minner’s counselor (see GreenDel archives.). That combined with his close association with Carper’s DLC makes him a candidate with a lot more to prove, IMHO.
His work in elected office has been commendable.
