what is amazing to me
Is in discussing the torture arguement with my Republican father is how it seems to only pertain to Muslims. It’s like all these tactics are only going to be used on terrorists. As if when performing waterboarding we have a checklist to follow.
1. Muslim believing in Allah CHECK
Alright! woohoo we can torture’m boys!
I think in the discussion you have with someone about these “tactics used to protect our freedom” *(my quote actually but when you put something in quotes it has more meaning, no?)* that you must ask the person what if these things were done to you. That I think is the part we need to hammer home. What the current administration has managed to do is dehumanize the terrorists and make all things that erode our Civlil Liberties only seem applicable to the most crazed, dehumanzied, scum of the earth, all I want to do is kill you human being.
You and I know damn well that isn’t the case and people like Carper know it to.
There are some pretty nasty folks out there- but the frenzy over terrorism is just that an orchastrated campoaiung from Rummy to keep us so afraid none of us is willing to question all the underanded crap he and the corporate guys are doing to erode the foundations of our democratic government.
dv, I was pretty much with you right until “What the current administration has managed to do is dehumanize the terrorists….”
I think you mean the prisoners we take, or even Muslims, rather than terrorists in general.
The moral case for banning evidence obtained by torture from the previous Chief Prosecutor for the Military Commissions at Gitmo.
A quick and compelling read from a man who clearly understands where American moral authority used to come from, and points the way to how we can get part of it back.
steve,
I agree with you…good point.
