Mr. McCain-Feingold Campaign Financing himself

Filed in National by on February 19, 2008

I can’t think of a better example of how fucking hypocritical this piece of shit is than this.

As The Washington Post reported on Saturday, John McCain’s campaign struck a canny deal with a bank in December. If his campaign tanked, public funds would be there to bail him out. But if he emerged as the nominee, there’d be no need for public financing, since the contributions would come flowing.

Pretty sweet huh?

basically:

What we know is that McCain found a way to use the public funds as an insurance policy: If he did poorly, he would use public funds to pay off his loans. If he did well, he would have the advantage of unlimited spending.

Awesome! Basically, he borrowed money from a bank in Maryland (only $5mil) and said that he will pay it back with his public financing if his campaign tanks. Only a Maverick can think of things like that!

  1. FSP says:

If he’s a hypocrite, Obama is what for going back on his deal to take public financing?

    A change agent?

  2. donviti says:

    weak dude, so weak

so you are saying this is ok what the Maverick did…

some conservative you are..oh wait…this is typical of you. Glad you aren’t running for Governor

  3. nemski says:

FSP, could you post a link where Obama said he would use public financing. The only thing I can find is that his campaign would investigate public financing as an alternative.

  4. donviti says:

I’m hunting for it too Nemski…

he said he would LOOK into it, but never agreed

  5. donviti says:

At issue is a statement Obama made in November on a questionnaire for the Midwest Democracy Network, which asked: “If you are nominated for president in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forgo private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in [the] presidential public financing system?”

Obama’s questionnaire answer, as posted online by the League of Women Voters: “Yes. I have been a longtime advocate for public financing of campaigns combined with free television and radio time as a way to reduce the influence of moneyed special interests. … If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement.”

yep, typical of FSP and the right…

  6. FSP says:

Oh. So he’s just a panderer. All talk.

    Got it.

  7. FSP says:

What was that word he used there to answer the question? The word that starts with “y” and ends with “s” ?

  8. donviti says:

I WILL AGRESSIVELY PURSUE AN AGREEMENT.

come one davey, you are a fan of Limbaugh aren’t you, you need to use the entire quote in it’s context…

  9. donviti says:

Oh. So he’s just a panderer. All talk.

    Got it.

are you talking about McCain? YES he is

  10. jason330 says:

Please notice how good Dave is at sidetracking a thread.

Wanger is stealing tax money becomes “Dems Suck.”

McCain is a liar become “Obama panders.”

he has never directly responded to a thread in his life. It is all red herring all the time. 24/7/365

  11. nemski says:

So by your thinking Dave, George Bush has admitted we can’t win the Iraq War.

“I fully understand those who say you can’t win this thing militarily. That’s exactly what the United States military says, that you can’t win this military.” –George W. Bush, on the need for political progress in Iraq, Washington, D.C., Oct. 17, 2007

  12. G Rex says:

Now THERE’S a red herring for you, Jason. Noone has ever claimed a military-only solution was the key, but rather that the military situation had to stabilize before the political/diplomatic situation could. But jackasses like Nemski spin that into GWB thinks he can bomb the Iraqi people into democracy.

  13. donviti says:

    jason it’s a leap year 24/7/366

  14. cassandra m says:

A financing solution that only Mr. McKeating could provide, methinks.

Oh yes, make a note of this day, folks. Here we have real live republicans actually dissing folks for turning down taxpayer funds.

The repub hypocrisy parade rolls on…..

  15. nemski says:

G Rex, nice internet muscle flexing. Let me explain it to you slowly.

    I . . . was . . . just . . . showing . . . F . . . S . . . P . . . that . . . when . . . you . . . take . . . words . . . out . . . of . . . context . . . you . . . can . . . make . . . whatever . . . you . . . want . . . it . . . to . . . be. . . . O . . . kay

  16. FSP says:

How can you take the word ‘yes’ out of context?

He was asked a question and the first word out of his mouth was YES.

  17. nemski says:

FSP, so after 7 years of a man who cannot talk, you’re going to start nitpicking at words and not look at the whole meaning. Priceless.

Because, if you want, we can go mano-y-mano (Obama v Bush) regarding speeches and saying what you mean.

  18. Brian says:

Look, the political will to effect a solution in Iraq is needed before it can occur. Let’s- please- do that first.

  19. FSP says:

    Nitpicking?!?!?!?!

    He was asked a question!

    He said yes!

That’s all. He answered yes. Any argument to the contrary is pointless.

Plus, even if I capitulated to your weak argument, he’s not aggressively pursuing anything, because if he did aggressively pursue it, he’d get it. He’d be the nominee, and he could have anything he wants. Fact is, he said that when he was way back, and now that he isn’t, he’s changing his tune.

Is that what he means by change?

  20. nemski says:

Guess Obama lost FSP’s vote over this issue.

  21. cassandra m says:

Guess so. And largely because FSP has reading comprehension issues. Otherwise he would have understood how a conditional question actually works.

But it is good to get his endorsement of the taking of taxpayer money for campaigning!

  22. FSP says:

Everything about Obama is conditional. Thanks for admitting it.

  23. G Rex says:

Okay Nemski, if you’re practicing reductio ad absurdum on Dave, then I concede the point. And I meant jackass in a good way.

Back to the original point, was this the loan for which McCain had to take out a life insurance policy on himself to secure?

  24. Brian says:

McCain is the manchurian candidate. He needs to be in a rubber room.

  25. cassandra m says:

And your stance, FSP, of good stewardship of the taxpayer dollar stands as the dictionary definition of conditional. Thanks for providing the written evidence for all to see.

  26. FSP says:

Nice try, cassandra. Nowhere is there a judgment on my part about taxpayer funding of campaigns. Obama could have promised puppies for everybody and flip-flopped on that. The point is he went back on his word.

  27. Brian says:

Like McCain never has Dave? Go to Flipper TV and you can see them. The democrats are going to unload on him like you have never seen before.

  28. cassandra m says:

Very bad try, FSP — this is what I mean by reading skills — he only talks about public financing if his opponents are going to commit to it. Since they aren’t, then, well, you get the drift by now, I’m thinking. (Well, one of them has committed to use taxpayer funds to pay off his debts if he can’t quite make it out of the gate, which, you know, doesn’t sound very interested in the good use of taxpayer funds no matter how you want to condition it.) But there is no word yet to go back on.

But then, I suppose that you and Mr. McKeating can flip-flop on good stewardship of taxpayer funds when you think that a Democrat isn’t taking enough money. Good luck with that flip flop.

  29. nemski says:

No harm no foul G Rex, sometimes the inner-web makes it difficult to pry out meaning.

  30. liz allen says:

Tasers requested at the GOP convention in St Paul! As for campaign finance reform…we have a bill ready to go for Delaware. Now if we can only find one good legislator ready to sponsor that would be great. The bill was in the legislature 4 years ago…shoved in the desk drawer like so many, well its back out again. If you want to take back your government, support campaign finance reform, so candidates don’t have to prostitute themselves to big business to get elected. Please talk to your legislators and see if there is one that believes in true democracy. Its a great bill that will bring more candidates into the mix and give the citizens of Delaware an opportunity to have clean elections.

  31. FSP says:

Cassandra – His opponent did commit to it. But of course, if the empty suit is going back on his word, then McCain has to play by the same rules.

  32. jason330 says:

Poor Dave. No Governor candidate. No Senate candidate. No Lt. Gov candidate. His Pres. Pick sucked and now his second place choice, Hillary is in danger of an early exit.

  33. FSP says:

    Poor Dave?

More like poor Delaware and poor America.

    Dave’ll be fine.

  34. donviti says:

it’s your America too dave. But typical Republican only cares about himself in the end
