Monogamy Is Not a Republican Virtue

Filed in National by on February 23, 2008

I think we can all agree that the reason the sex part of the Vicki Iseman/John McCain story didn’t have any legs was that he long ago admitted that he was an adulterer.

It is pretty much given that if you are a (non-Mormon) Republican you are going to cheat on your wife. No big whoop.

Regarding the affair with Cindy Lou Hensley, at least McCain made on honest women of out her.

Let’s not forget when McCain dated the stripper, Marie the Flame Thrower of Florida.

  2. Rebecca says:

    Marie the Flame Thrower? Ouch!

  3. Oh, NO! ...not again says:

Is Cindy Lou the wind up Barbie walking two steps behind him?

  4. Puzzler says:

Actually if you’re a non-mormon republican OR democrat, you’re probably going to cheat on your wife.

But if you’re a non-mormon REPUBLICAN, it seems you’re a lot more likely to cheat on your wife with a man.

  5. Puzzler says:

….not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  6. Brian says:

That is almost the funniest statement of fact I have ever read. Thank you Puzzler.

  7. Dana Garrett says:

Let’s face the facts. The way things have been going recently for the GOP w/ their elected officials, they are all probably breathing a collective sigh of relief that this time the other person was a woman.

    LOL!

Maybe I’m way out in left field here, probably since I’m not a blogger and I’ve never shared a beer with the gang, but . . .

I don’t visit FSP on principle, I don’t want to add to their counter thingy or what ever it is you do to measure blog success.

I also think anything I might post there would be a waste of my time. Anybody who is still clinging to the Republican Party after the last seven years is beyond hope.

So I just clicked a link that took me over to FSP, I didn’t know that’s where I was going, and I see all these comments from the same folks who comment here?

Freedom of Speech is a wonderful thing and I would never want to abridge it, but I’m wondering if it is a good strategy to keep encouraging Dave to spout this stuff by rising to the bait? I dunno, but it seems to me that nobody would be paying any attention to him if we stopped arguing with him.

Just a thought. Maybe that’s part of the fun and I’m just being a killjoy here.

    Hi Rebecca,

I understand your point but debate is the heart of a free society and we need to debate lots of issues to develop new ways of doing things. I think if either party just ignored the other there would never be any hope of consensus or change or development on either side. It is that kind of listening to each other, debating on principle and argument that needs to go on now more than ever. Besides if Jason ignored Dave, or vice versa, it would not be nearly as entertaining. Maybe Dr. Liberal can answer the question…..

  11. I agree, Brian. Rebecca, debate is the best part of this game called blogging. I think you’re being terribly short-sighted by blocking out what the other side has to say. Besides, Dave’s blog is one of the best written in the state.

  12. I look to the leadership of people like Kavips for an answer here, Rebecca. He just put up two posts with the themes of inclusiveness and exclusiveness.

The Delaware bloggers are proud to have a blogging community of inclusiveness and alot of that is attributed to the work of DE Liberal having started the bi-partisan Around The Horn series and of Dave Burris to have coined the phrase Blogger Mafia as we have moved forward together on issues that brought us together like open government.

There are some writers on Dave’s blog who offer considered arguments that encourage civil debate and there are some who I just don’t read. But then, occasionally it is worth it to just toss the poisoned dart into the convo as long as you are there disagreeing with the premise of a post.

  13. jason330 says:

Besides, Dave’s blog is one of the best written in the state.

    except when it is not,

Dr. Liberal is putting together a stack of punch cards to feed into his Olivetti Programma P102 in order to lay down the law on this question.

The whole process takes about two and a half days so please talk amongst yourselves.

  14. I said best WRITTEN. Not best opinions. Big difference there, Dr. Liberal!

  15. jason330 says:

Dave can write a post. They also have some of our worst written posts.

I have the worst spelled and typed posts.

  16. Rebecca says:

    Good for you guys!

I just feel like I’ve been reasoning and eventually screaming at these folks for seven years. It’s like Chinese water torture. Maybe it’s just February. I think I’ll go get the Burpees catalog — that always helps.

    I admire your stamina!

  17. Dana Garrett says:

“I don’t visit FSP on principle, I don’t want to add to their counter thingy or what ever it is you do to measure blog success.”

That’s too bad, Rebecca. There are many things on FSP I don’t agree w/, but there are posts there I do and agree w/ totally and which I think any progressive would agree w/. Besides, FSP has been a consistent advocate for open govt and that’s important for the people of DE, which is a consideration that is beyond partisanship.

For example, FSP is singularly responsible in my view for saving HB 4 from a certain death, a bill which one of shared favorite politicians, Karen Peterson, enthusiastically supported.

For me FSP is a must and important read, one which as a blogger I believe it would be irresponsible of me to neglect.

  18. R Smitty says:

Plus, Rebecca, you now put down people like me (as I am one of the DP (DelawarePolitics, nee FSP)). Without me, Jason would have never had his balls kicked so hard and frequently. The odd thing is…he kinda likes it. Really. He does.

  19. liberalgeek says:

Yes, Rebecca. You should read DelawarePolitics, because once a month Smitty posts something. 🙂

  20. R Smitty says:

I just did…just now! Is it March already?

  21. R Smitty says:

Oh crap….I posted twice in a month. Now I’m screwed.

  22. Rebecca says:

Well, maybe it wouldn’t hurt to lurk ;o)

  23. R Smitty says:

While there is an annoying sting, Rebecca, it really isn’t a malignant pain. I mean, I practically live over here! Then again, I am a wee bit masochistic.
