Conventional Wisdom: Clinton Needs Huge Wins

Filed in National by on March 4, 2008

If she fails to win Texas she should drop. But she’ll stay in and continue to support the Republican nominee in word and deed.

That’s what I’m reading.

    This is so disgusting.

    And STUPID!

What the hell is she doing? She’s taken her eye off the ball! If she wins the primary, how the hell will she beat McCain? Her main issue is experience, and now she’s given that to McCain.

    STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

Just like her campaign. She couldn’t see past Super Tuesday. Now she can’t see past the primary.

    Did I mention Stupid?

  2. anon says:

Dems need to put Hillary away now. With Hillary running in the fall, the Republican Congressional campaign ads just write themselves.

  3. nemski says:

I know this goes against convential-blog wisdom, but let’s wait and see. 🙂

I believe if Hillary goes 2 for 4 or 1 for 4 and doesn’t drop out, the Democratic big wigs will be rolling out for Obama in the next week or so.

I just thought of something. If Clinton wins there is a silver lining.

Apathy will flow into my veins like heroin and I will be able float on a cloud of clueless, doped up ignorance for the rest of my days.

  5. anon says:

I had to overcome the same apathy when Edwards didn’t catch on. I don’t think I can do it for Hillary. I don’t think she’d be a horrible President – I just don’t think she can win. And she would hurt the party downticket.

  6. Al Mascitti says:

Pandora: Bingo! McCain has already responded with exactly that argument.

  7. Von Cracker says:

I didn’t vote for HRC, but at the time thought that if she was the nominee, it would be ok. After her stupid words the other day placing McCaint over Obama, just because they’ve been in DC longer has totally lost me.

She should shut her fucking trap and drop out now – as Maddow said last night – “those are words you say if you want to be McCain’s VP nominee.”

Plus, the argument about experience is easily debunked anyway – Obama has held an elected government office LONGER than HRC. Not to be a misogynist, but the First Lady really doesn’t do shit – she didn’t have security clearance, she didn’t have any role in foreign policy issues, such as Kosovo and Somalia. She didn’t work in committees to help pass legislation while FLOTUS. She had her health care thing – and got beat down for her efforts.

That’s her experience prior to 2002 – if you use her definition of the word.

It is telling that Rush is stumping for Hillary:

Limbaugh Makes Last-Minute Push for Hillary

No.1 radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh went on Fox News The OReilly Factor and reiterated his call for Republicans to vote for Hillary Clinton in Tuesdays primaries in Ohio and Texas to keep Barack Obama from wrapping up the race.

If Hillary Clinton does remain in the race and drags the primaries out to June or even to the Democratic Convention in August, Democrats may end up spending $200 million to $300 million more in attacking each other.

The prospect makes the Republican-leaning Limbaugh giddy.

BREAK NEWS FOR JASON TO POST:

Believe it or not, sometime this week, President Bush is expected to authorize the CIA to torture and abuse detainees and prisoners. Seriously. Presented with a bill – passed by Congress – that would make it clear that the CIA cannot waterboard detainees, force prisoners to perform sexual acts, or employ many other objectionable interrogation “techniques,” Bush has pledged to veto the legislation.

What are you going to do to express your outrage? We at the American Freedom Campaign Action Fund encourage you to take two steps. First, follow the link below to send an email to the president expressing your disgust.

    http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2165/t/1027/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=23461

Then, use our “tell a friend” option — which will appear automatically after you send your email to Bush — to encourage friends and family members to add their voices to yours.

On February 13, following the lead of the U.S. House, the Senate gave final approval to an intelligence authorization bill that included a provision forcing the CIA to follow the interrogation and detention standards set out in the Army field manual. The Army field manual is more restrictive than the law under which the CIA currently operates — the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 — which more generally prohibits “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.”

By vetoing this bill, Bush will be saying to the CIA that it is OK to beat, electrocute, and burn prisoners. It will be OK to hood prisoners and put duct tape across their eyes. And it will be OK to perform mock executions and subject detainees to hypothermia.

This is the message George W. Bush is about to send to the world. Once he does, it will underscore the growing misperception that we as a nation approve these techniques. Moreover, it will send the signal that we believe it is acceptable for these same techniques to be used against U.S. soldiers and citizens held by foreign intelligence agencies.

We must do everything we can to stop President Bush before he vetoes this bill. Please send an email to the White House today by clicking on this link:

  10. Steve Newton says:

Hillary will not quit because Obama will not have the requisite number of pledged delegates to win the nomination. And she sees 313 more out there in Michigan and Florida. Do the math: Barack cannot put her away today.

And if you think the party leaders are going to come to unity on tossing her out of the race, think again. This is her shot; this is her only shot. Even if she leaves the Democratic Party so divided that she only has a 25% chance of beating McCain that’s her only road to the White House, and she knows it. She’ll rationalize it by telling herself (a) there’s next time for Barack and (b) that McCain would eat Obama alive on the experience issue, so she’s saving the Dems from themselves.

  11. jason330 says:

That is the first smart things you’ve typed today.

  12. Rebecca says:

Right Steve, the DLC has been saving us from ourselves by losing elections for years. Gosh, I’m sure glad we’ve got them to look out for us.

“That is the first smart things you’ve typed today.”

Broken clocks, twice a day, something like that.

  14. xstryker says:

The Clinton campaign has been so busy slamming the Texas caucus system that it seems pretty obvious they know they’re going to lose the caucus vote. I stand by MattTX’s projection – they’ll essentially tie the primary for delegates even with a small Hillary lead statewide. Then, an Obama win in the caucuses immediately afterwards will give the overall delegate lead to Obama.

  15. Pandora says:

I spent ALL day watching CNN — my father had surgery so I was waiting. The two main things I noticed: 1) Hillary on the campaign trail, and 2) Obama being questioned about Reznik (sp??) and NAFTA.

That’s it? So help me if Hillary complains about bias again…
