The IRS Making Sure Your Rebate Gets Spent

This was on Marketplace this evening:

Most taxpayers will get anywhere from $600 to $1,200 from Uncle Sam as part of the federal plan to stimulate the economy. But many taxpayers will use the money to pay down debts instead. So, the IRS isn’t taking any chances.

Listen to the segment here.

(There is a small ad at first, or you can skip that and see the transcript here.)

I’ve never heard Robert Reich make more important points.

Have you seen the Obama Commercial where he states he doesn’t take money from Oil Companies?

Well, it’s pretty crappy add now that I understand the law. Obama can’t take money from oil companies directly because the freaking law says so and has for 100 years. He takes it from the Oil Companies employees though and their spouses.

I saw it Monday and was like wow that’s pretty cool of him…until of course I learned the truth.  Like I said, in the end he is still a politician.   Personally, I find this real shitty of him.   The add is really, REALly SHITTY too.

We find the statement misleading:Obama has accepted more than $213,000 from individuals who work for companies in the oil and gas industry and their spouses. Two of Obama’s bundlers are top executives at oil companies and are listed on his Web site as raising between $50,000 and $100,000 for the presidential hopeful.

UPDATED: Arbitrary Goalposting

People are saying:

If Hillary Clinton does not win PA by more than 20% it is a huge disaster for her and she should drop out.

I happen to agree, but 20 points does seem to be pretty arbitary.

UPDATE: Turns out I coined a word. So when you hear Tucker Carlson use the word Goalposting to mean setting expectations for the outcome of an election so that the results can be viewed as positive – you know you heard it here first.

(h/t Duncan Black for being a great guy.)

Question of the day

If I think my 15 y/o daughter is smoking but I’m not sure of it can I use enhanced interrogation tactics on her and her friends to find out?

My arguement is yes because:

1.  It is a matter of life and death

2.  It is illegal

3.  she is a minor and a ward of my house

4.  It isn’t abuse, it would merely be like me teaching the back stroke

Bloggers Continue to Get Choice Political Posts

Last week we were all elated by the appointment of Mat Marshall to the post of Communications Director. If these things come in threes, there is only one to go.

Mike Protack has named activist/poet/blogger Dana Garrett as his campaign manager.

“My first foe in this battle to become Governor will be the Republican party itself. Dana has shown an ability to battle some of my biggest detractors, such as Dave Burris” said Protack.

“Once I have wrapped up the Republican nomination, I will need someone that can battle my Democratic opponent, whether that person is Carney or Markell, I know that Dana will be willing and able to excoriate them at every turn. He has been doing it for years.”

This is really unbelievable. Congratulations, Dana. I am sure you will be a formidable opponent.

Have a great day.
