Pulling The Plug On Delmarva Power

Filed in National by on April 23, 2008

This is a great resolution.

Dover, DE – Tomorrow, 16 state lawmakers will introduce House Concurrent Resolution 50, which recommends Delmarva Power be denied the ability to pass onto its customers the costs it has incurred opposing the power purchase agreement (PPA)with Bluewater Wind. Since its refusal to sign the PPA in December, 2007, Delmarva has opposed Bluewater Wind’s proposal during various legislative proceedings and by means of an extensive print and radio advertising campaign.

Not to mention that the adds were full of flat out lies.

“We cannot stand idly by and allow any corporate entity to further burden hardworking Delawareans who already feel a financial crunch due to the economy,” said Rep. John A. Kowalko (D – Newark South). “Delmarva Power has continued to obstruct the proceedings of the power purchase agreement and is now attempting to do so at the expense of their customers.”

HCR 50, designed to protect Delmarva Power ratepayers from additional fees, will be unveiled at a press conference tomorrow afternoon. The bill has bipartisan support from both the State House of Representatives and the State Senate.

Go John! Now we only need to get Copeland and McDowell to stop using taxpayer money to lobby for Delmarva Power.

I congratulate John Kowalko for having the courage to stand up against this mega corporation, attempting to overrule the citizens of Delaware and our good government legislators! John is truly a rare human being who continues to try to slay the corporate dragon and its baby dragon supporters.

John Kowalko is Superman. I know there’s a big S on his chest! Go John go!

This is a great victory, however, its pretty symbolic. Following thousands of accounting entries to make sure that we, the consumers, didn’t pay for their mud-slinging campaign is like getting Delaware Finance to understand cash controls.

  5. This idea was ‘born’ on Kavips’ blog where John Kowalko laid the draft down. Thank goodness for Kavips’ rock solid inspirations!
