Hillary Post-Mortem

Filed in Uncategorized by on May 8, 2008

Time has a piece up about the 5 mistakes that Hillary made that cost her the nomination. It is a pretty good list. I think the weak point of the article is that Axelrod was one of the main sources.

Anyone else have mistakes that she made? I think it would also be fair to list the mistakes that Obama has made. Although those mistakes didn’t cost him the nomination.

Editors Note: The over/under betting line date for Clinton suspending her campaing is May 22nd.

    1. Pandering: NAFTA, gas tax holiday, guns, and now “hard working whites”. She wrote off the voters she needs (blacks, youth, activists i.e. the Dem Base) for the support of a group that will probably vote for McCain.

    2. Rule Changing: MI and FL, which states matter, new delegate totals. People understand cheating.

    3. The internet: YouTube and blogs. Hillary didn’t understand this medium… if she had the Bosnia “misstatement” would never have happened.

Not only did she misjudge the mood of Democrats, she actively annoyed a decent number of them with the presumptive nominee strategy. It is as though her campaign decided that much of the Dem base just would not matter, they would jump right out and start playing to the Independents. And so far I do get a sense that folks on all political fronts are tired of 50+1 governing strategies.
