John Atkins Question of the Late Night/Early AM
Suppose a close friend or family member came to you with a worried countenance and said, “I’m really worried about the prospect of the disgraced drunk driver, wife-beater, witness tamper-er and all around loser, John Atkins, being elected to represent the 41st RD as a Democrat.”
What would you say to that person?
I would tell them to repeat what they said 3 times, then to figure it out for themselves.
That their worries are rational?
Is that unusual for a politician? The only thing that’s missing is philanderer. If you could add that to the list, he’d be the perfect Democrat (unless it was closeted homosexual dalliances, in which case he’d be the perfect Republican).

He has normal length arms and is not very fluent in English, so I think he is your type.
When I read this, I assumed that our esteemed host was trying to make a hypocrisy point, and that Mr Atkins was actually running as a Republican. I see now that he was a Republican, who lost his seat due to his actions, and is now considering running as a Democrat.
What that really shows is that he’s neither a Republican nor a Democrat, but simply self-centered.
This seems to be a problem with a lot of legislators, of both parties. They can’t seem to see themselves as doing anything else but being in the legislature. I’ve never really been a fan of legislative term limits, but some of these careerists really need to get out into the real world.
My own state representative, Keith McCall (D-PA 122nd) has been in the state legislature for 24 years, after having assumed the seat at age 22 following the death of his father, who held the seat for a zillion years previously. That House seat is simply the “family business.”
But Mr McCall is a legislator who has never done anything else; how can he understand what the people are doing?
I don’t know anything about him, but I’ll take you’re word that he’s a POS. I just think he the qualities you listed are all too common in the political arena.

The thing to do is campaign against Atkins. I plan to volunteer for Greg Hastings. I would also volunteer for anyone that decides to primary Atkins.

What’s best for the district — You have Greg Hastings who’s a lying manipulative inept developer who’s biggest issue was testing high school atheletes for steroids — The fruitbat Barbara Lifflander, maybe — and then Adkins… If I were in the 41st dist I’d pack my bags. Hastings is asleep at the switch trying to piggyback on work that others have done. This place is a pit.
If 50% + 1 person votes for him, is it a commentary on his actions or the people who elected him?

Finally, what exactly did you expect Hastings to accomplish in his first 1/2 term?
Word is Atkins was booed loudly at the Sussex Democrat meeting last night.
Can he survive the primary? What woman would vote for him knowing his history?
With his work on the NRG situation and his work on the steroids issue and eminent domain, Hastings did more in one year than Atkins did in 4.
Also, the 3 Sussex Democrats on County Council, Jones, Dukes and Rogers, are retiring today. Look for the GOP to sweep County Council with Mike Vincent, Judson Bennett & Bob Ricker joining Vance Phillips and George Cole.

Dominque: do you consider “wife swapping” being a philanderer? This guy is the biggest looser in the State. Any person who votes for him has a screw loose. He is running in my district, and the truth about this fool is legendary in Sussex.
He uses his street fund money to pave the private parking lots of veterans clubs to get their votes, instead of using those funds are legal public highways. He has no ethics, believes himself above the law. This idiot shouldnt be anywhere near the legislature.
Boooooo…. Atkins spoke last night to my Home Owners Assoc. He was very well received and alot of people took his signs when they left. If he spoke to us last night from 600 to 900, how was he booed last night at the Democrat meeting? Keep trying. Liz, what “private parking lot” did he pave? Can you show us any proof of your claim?
