Saturday Night Question

Filed in National by on July 26, 2008

If the distance between where you live now, and where you could live if money were no object represented your level of contentment in life – how content are you?

I’ll start this off in the comment section.

I’m perfectly content right now – but when we have an empty nest I’d love to live in Paris.

  2. delawaredem says:

We talked about this earlier today….

I would love to go back to Washington, DC, living in the Northwest section or in Arlington. Loved it there. I actually love North Wilmington / Brandywine Hundred, which is where I live now.

And I also loved Los Angeles. I would also buy a vacation home in Santorini, Greece.

If money were no object I don’t think I’d feel so much pressure to choose the right place. I’d have townhomes in a couple of major cities, a ranch somewhere in South America, a chalet in the Alps, a beach compound in Spain… And if I didn’t like any of those places, I’d rent a villa somewhere for a year and see if I liked that better.

    Hey delawaredem-

Good seeing you today. Gracias to the Donviti’s for being the gracious hosts.

    Those burgers rocked DV.

  5. delawaredem says:

Good seeing you again too. The Donvitis rock serious BBQ. The chicken was super spicy, just the way I like it.

  6. anon says:

Endless summer… Southern Hemisphere, Northern Hemisphere. With short trips to winter climates at Christmastime.

  7. Steve Newton says:

Estes Park, Colorado in the summer….

Georgia Sea Islands in the winter…..

  8. Dominique says:

Rehoboth. I’m sorry. I know that’s kind of lame, but I’ve been a lot of places – the Outer Banks, Florida, Santa Barbara, London, Bahamas, various beautiful tropical locations in Italy – but the Delaware beaches are where I feel most at home. My hope is to move down there permanently as soon as Mat finishes college.

  9. snark says:

I like my shack, I’d stay right here… but I’d get the basement dried out.

  10. Graniaclewbay says:

I’ve been waiting for the last one to leave the nest and then I’m off to New Mexico – Taos or Santa Fe, working with the Native Americans, who are the most UNDER-REPRESENTED and most long-suffering and forgotten in these United States. If I had no money worries, I’d buy back all their territories that were unconstitutionally taken from them in 1871, kick out all the assholes, give them back their land, buy myself a bunch of llamas and have a vacation home in Buxton, NC.

  11. Anon says:

If money were no object I would live in Costa Rica.

  12. jason330 says:

Hube says it is a great place.

So, snark and Dominique are the two most contented people here.

  13. arthur says:

Keeping it more local. We looked at moving a couple years ago to a $500k house in Brandywine Hundred. But when we were outside one night watching all the neighborhood kids playing baseball, the parents hanging out and talking, we realized contentment isn’t in a location, it’s what surrounds you to make you enjoy your location.

  14. Dist says:

Uh oh. Arthur is heading the way of “Bluebird of happiness is in your backyard.” Anyone feel like grabbing a drum and camping out in the woods with a bunch of sweaty fat guys who will pour their hearts out while singing Joni Mitchell songs?

  15. Dana says:

    Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

Oh, wait, I already live there! 🙂

Like anon, if money were no object, I’d have different townhomes in places: Gramercy Park in Manhattan, a villa on Santorini, apartments in Rome and Jerusalem, and to get as far away from things as possible, a ranch in New Zealand.

  16. Dominique says:

Graniac – you lost me at llamas. I’ve never understood the appeal of llamas.
