That was some storm…

Filed in National by on July 27, 2008

I was in Elkton, Maryland earlier today for the Christening of my latest nephew, when this summer’s worst thunderstorm decided to hit just as we all were leaving the church for the party afterwards at home.  I had to drive 20 miles per hour, through lightening striking the telephone poles along road, mere feet from me and my car, through raging rapids of water cascading down the road, through downed trees and limbs covering Rt. 213, downed powerlines, and straight line winds gusting enough to push my car off the road twice.   And then when I got to the house, a massive tree limb blocked the driveway, requiring me to get out of my car to move it, all the while getting drenched.   Once in the safety of my sister’s home, the power was out.

Was it as that bad here in Delaware?

My Herculean efforts at saving my family from death and destruction at the hands of that evil temptress, Mother Nature, entitle me to no consideration?

D’oh. I just noticed that was you and not LG. Oh well…I’m still voting for DV.

I was at the Phillies game. 1hr(ish) rain delay. When the game re-started WHAT A GAME!! Back to back Braves Homeruns followed by the Phils 5 homers, a double steal, bone crunching collision at home and a philly comeback from 5 runs down to win 12 to 10

I saw the score. Too bad the Mets also won, which means we are still one game back.

DD, I live within a few miles of 213, so I got the same stuff you saw. There was a few minutes that I thought that a tornado was forming. As one point there were small branches ripped from trees and instead of falling, they rose even higher in the air. Very freaky.

The Phils game sure was a thriller today – but don’t forget about the other big thriller – the Philly Soul winning Arena Bowl XXII! They very nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, letting San Jose score two TD’s in like 10 seconds near the end of the game, but thankfully still pulled it off.

I know Arena Football is kind of a B-list sport, but in this town I’ll take my championships any way I can get them!

I wouldn’t be surprised if the damage I saw was caused by a minor tornado.

Took the family to see the X-Flies 2 at the Regal on rt.40 this afternoon. It was quite windy.I can’t tell you the last time I saw the sky that color.

Oh, don’t bother going to see the movie, it sucked ass.

  13. delawaredem says:

Yeah, I loved the X Files, but heard this movie sucked. The sky was a weird green color as the storm approached. Really strange.

Mat was canvassing for Markell when it hit. He came home drenched, but safe.
